Quote:
Two HUGE thumbs up. Wariner is way underrated, a great guitar player. I have some of his albums from the Eighties and Nineties and need to revisit them. As for Fahey, his album "Of Rivers and Religion" was like an experience for me. Sparse and measured and hauntingly beautiful acoustic playing.

so, what IS a guitarist?
a person who delivers MUSIC through a guitar. when comparisons arise, many people turn it into a competition of technical prowess, speed, flash, etc. for ME, i'm far more interested in SOUND, "skills" be ****ed. i vote for joe henry. he's known far more for being a poet, and his guitar playing in general is pretty simple, but his SOUNDS always strike me. he knows when to add dissonance, inversions, etc ... and he knows when to shut up and keep things bare. YMMV. |

Amy Hayashi Jones, i listen to her nylon string arrangements when i'm working on things(glass, other instruments, building things). Amy is soothing, relaxing, reflective.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eznXzM0_wk Eva Cassidy, a wonderful artist who could play guitar and sing. Left us at 33yrs and was "discovered" years later. Mick Fleetwood would meet her in DC where she lived, and would bring her into his club there to play(and play drums for her performance) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td5mG_4xp14 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXBNlApwh0c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzLd2MDAHK8 people would posthumously make music with Eva years after she departed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTkUplF5VIE all about Eva, the "Timeless Voice" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDN_ss1S_5Y Last edited by darylcrisp; 11-22-2019 at 08:15 PM. |
