Default Favorite guitarist who is not that well known

One of my favorites who I have been listening to a lot lately is better known for his phenomenal voice but he was also an excellent guitarist. Jeff Buckley. He was more well known outside of his home country mainly due to his very brief career and tragic life and the era of American music during his own coming into notice which was entirely different than the style most people were listening to at the time which was early 90's Grunge.

Among his musical peers though he was highly esteemed. Jimmy Page was his idol when he was young and after Jimmy Page heard and saw him play live he himself said he was in awe of Jeff Buckley. Not only was he a excellent guitarist and vocalist he could play multiple instruments. He could play every instrument in every Led Zeppelin song.

His main guitar was a Telecaster although he did play a Guild, Gibson and Yamaha acoustic.Sadly the music world lost a lot of talent due to his early demise.

Who is a favorite of yours that is not that noticed that we may learn of their musical ways?

As well known as he is among guitar enthusiasts Leo Kottke is criminally unknown to the general music enthusiast. Long before I played guitar I travelled from Scotland to Amsterdam to hear him maybe about eight years ago, was very fortunate to get that chance given that he more or less never plays outside the US.

I saw his father, Tim Buckley, open for Jefferson Airplane at Swarthmore College in 1966. It was the first rock concert I ever attended. Tim overdosed at the rather tender age of 28. Here he is playing/singing Song to the Siren on the final episode of The Monkees television show...

Phil Keaggy is certainly known on this forum but not exactly a household name.

Took lessons from this guy when he was a teenage phenom; highly respected in mainstream jazz circles and as a session player, but never got the wider recognition commensurate with his talent - here he is trading licks with the better-known Howard Alden:

That is a beautiful song by Tim Buckley who I found being a fan of Jeff's. I think inheritance of talent is real thing thing proven by these 2. They only met once when Jeff was young and they are both equally brillant.

I had read about about him in Acoustic Guitar magazine I believe but never looked him up. Great story teller and excellent picker.

The late great Roy Buchanan.
The Rolling Stones wanted him but he knocked back the offer, didn't fancy learning all their material.
Here he is doing 'Hey Joe' live and using tricks that Jeff Beck would be proud to see.

Hamish Imlach, mainly for his songwriting, wit and absolutely incredible stage presence although he wasn’t a half bad guitarist either.

This cut has Ginger Baker on drums. Their Blue Garden album is a classic.

Walter Brook Trout. Okay, perhaps he is a legend, but many have not heard of him so if that's the case, a real revelation for you. Heres Walter pushing 70! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2935ckkxiJg

Pete Ham of Badfinger. Another one who died young. Primarily an acoustic player, he wrote no matter what, day after day, baby blue and without you. However many of the other songs he wrote were just a good and he was a fantastic guitarist. Watch his duet with George Harrison on here comes the sun in the concert for Bangladesh.
