I'm actually a fan of adding some shading around the edges of dark wood to bring out all the different color tones. It's what I did on this one.

My preference is for letting the top shine unadorned.
It is difficult to adorn beautiful, natural phenomena. I, for one, can't think of a way to "improve a sunset" outside of being present.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I get use to that....I think I would do some light shading just around the edges, I think it would add a pretty cool dimension to the colors instead of just one uniform look, in a way it would provide contrast to let the rest of the top stand out....

As a future Michaud owner I vote for no sunburst, plenty going on without adding that.

Yes, I really like that. Subtle, instant patina with added interest and depth.

My vote would be for the shading, it will add more contrast and make the metal pop more.
Looks great. Mark |

NICE! Congrats. That is some lovely wood that ought to pair very well.
Will be lurking!

While that top is indeed very nice, and you probably can't go wrong either way... I think a slight edgeburst will look fantastic. I had it done on my Stehr, and I am glad I did.

I think it would look nice with a very slight "burst" or maybe a vignette effect. It does make the center seem to "glow" more..

And it's off to the finisher....here is the latest batch
The big topic has been the finish. I went back and forth several times. I think the wood is awesome by itself, but a slight burst might make it really pop. It could also take a lot away from it. Joel said that the burst was out of his comfort zone, but his gut is saying to go for it. He's been spot on so far, so I'm going for it. I'm hoping for a very very subtle burst, just a hint of it around the edge. Joel also said that the finisher could give us a preview, if we aren't happy, he'll sand it off. I'll be a bit anxious waiting for the results. |

My goodness man...
That's incredible...and FWIW I'm all in on the edge burst. It will bring Joels work with the copper around full circle and really...you know...tie the room together.

Absolutely gorgeous! I really like the colour palette of this guitar. I can't wait to see it with some finish on it.

Yeah for the light edge burst, the minority wins one!!!! Of course you may not like it and sand it out, so I will wait anxiously to see the final outcome!

Really loving this wood combination--makes me want one of my own! This is looking totally stunning. As mentioned before, the color palette really works so well. Can't wait to see it under finish--au naturelle of course!

Absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I've seen a neck made out of walnut before (surprisingly, considering how common walnut is among woodworkers). Visually, it's stunning. So much so that I might change my next build to a walnut neck lol. What were your reasons for choosing walnut for the neck aside from aesthetics?
