Default NGD: Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2

Hi All,

Sometimes a guitar walks into our life that is uniquely special. More often than not, it is unexpected and catches you off guard. That is certainly the case, here.

As a long time lover of the J45, I have been drawn to that tone. I lust after the "good" ones in videos and recordings. I have even purchased a few along the way, but could never get comfortable with the overall size. A girl can dream, but those dreams do not always come true.

Several months ago I played a vintage LG2 and while the tone hit me squarely in the heart, it also required about $1000 in repairs to make it right. I hemmed and hawed, and while I was doing so, it sold to a local couple who put the needed repairs into it and rumor has it, they are wildly happy. I am not surprised. That guitar was special and the size, was perfect for my frame. Sigh.

The tone of that guitar stuck with me. There was just something about it. So, when Gibson released the 1942 Banner LG-2, I had to give it a try. Much to my delight, it truly was love at first strum. I have had a lot of wonderful guitars pass through my hands over the years, so I am very particular when I decide to fork over cash. It really has to hit me; the tone, the feel, the neck carve, and on and on.

So, yes, this one is a departure from my on-going Collings love affair. It is different, of course, and it is just as captivating to my ear.

Blessed I am to have found this gem....hmmm, maybe a girl's dreams can come true?

Wow! Beautiful guitar! Congratulations on finding what you were looking for!

I was also going to buy an LG-2, but found an L-00 that I really liked! These small bodied Gibson's have a special sound.

Enjoy playing it!

Martin

Congrats! I know more than a few folks who are still waiting on one of those new Gibson Historic Series guitars.

It is, yes. Light as chips, and feels old. Gibson did these right!

Excellent. Does it also come with a big fat neck being a banner reissue? How does the shape and size compare to the 000-18 Authentic ?

It is not as big and fat as some. It is still on the full size, but it hits me in the right places, without feeling cumbersome. It supports my hand, but does not feel like I am having to "work" around it. Does that make sense?

It is smaller overall than the 000-18 Authentic for sure. I 'think' it is somewhere between the J45 standard neck carve, and some of the larger Banners I have played.

Ha! I probably needed to tell him the neck was a baseball bat.
