player series (Mexico) fender strat or something by Schecter will get you best value for your money in that price range... for a first guitar it’s awfully hard to beat genuine fender, I’ve had my MIM strat for over 20 years and still play it daily despite have 12 other guitars, some that cost 10 times as much... it’s easy to get parts for them if you want to customize it later and it’ll never go out of style... Stratocaster is a must have... if your into metal then I’d be looking at Ibanez, Jackson or my favorite Schecter...

Looks like they took the string thicknesses into account when they cut the slots (the right way IMO), hence the irregular spacing sat the nut; if you look at the spacing over the first fret everything looks OK - well-spaced, plenty of clearance at both edges for bending...

Use it well, often and LOUD - get yourself a nice tube amp and you'll be set...

I bought a MIM Tele from the classifieds here. $450 with Fender Noiseless pickups, it looked brand new.

I put a Wilkinson pickup in the bridge of my Telecaster. (Trevor Wilkinson recognised for making authentic, value for money pickups).
