Default New Gibson line with sound ports

Well this is interesting. The sound port is getting very popular these days.

I suspect these guitars at these prices is about to test just how popular it can become.

It’s not a sound port, it’s a Player Port. And it goes all the way through to the inside!

“Located in the upper shoulder of the guitar, the Player Port runs through to the inside of the body where all the resonant goodness of an acoustic is produced. The result sends a focused projection of each strum and each note, up and into your ears for immediate sonic "feedback"!

Pretty excited about these. I've been looking for an affordable backup gigger to my Rainsong. With a mag pickup I'll be good to go. I just ordered one of the G-00's from Sweetwater. Supposed to be here on Thursday, can gig it on Friday, fingers crossed.

Good for them for doing something a little different. I like the walnut back and sides, too.

This kind of reminds me of Fender starting to play around with different neck pickups like P-90's and Filtertrons in Telecasters. Players and small builders had been doing it for years and years but when they came out with it (and charged custom shop prices for it) they marketed it as some sort of revelation.

Just got a G Writer. 1350 GBP.
Great action and set up out of the box.
The player port does enhance the sound from playing position.
Like the walnut b&s and the tone somewhere between hog and RW.
Body size is comfortable, sitting or standing.
Not particularly struck on the satin body finish (but I knew that before I purchased). Already swapped out the plain black plastic pins for white bone and abalone.
It's an understated guitar and I guess a chunk of the price is for the headstock logo.
Not gigged yet but I do like the way it sounds plugged in and the neck is effortless.
Time will tell if it's a keeper, but as a gigging guitar it'll be fine.

I tried one the other day and was surprised how little difference the sound port hole made.

What's the Baggs Element Bronze pickup like? I can't find any info on it and what makes it different than the normal Element?

Sounds OK at home. Interested to hear it with the full band rig. Only has a vol control, but that's fine as I use a Zoom A3 box anyway.

Would also be interested if you can even hear the sound port at all when playing live at some volume.
