Does the Waterloo (by Collings) brand use Honduran Mahogany?
Just curious. They are fairly expensive. Do they use S. American mahogany?

South American? Do you mean Central? I've never asked them, but I don't think so. The specs identify it as "Solid Mahogany." When they use Honduran, the specs read, "Honduran Mahogany."
I know with the Maple Waterloos, the Maple is domestic rather than German. |

Just toured the Collings/Waterloo factory yesterday. The tour guide while showing us some Mahogany pieces made mention that much of their "Honduran" Mahogany is actually currently coming from Fiji. I took it that by "Honduran" he was referring to "genuine" Mahogany.

I don’t know, but,I don’t believe Honduran mahogany has to come from Honduras, the Honduran mahogany on my Breedlove is from Guatemala for example.

Honduran mahogany is the common name for bigleaf (Swietenia macrophylla). It is native to Central and South America. That includes the Amazon basin in Brazil and Peru.
AFAIK, the plantation mahogany grown elsewhere (including Fiji) may include Honduran or Cuban (S. mahogani), both of which are considered genuine mahogany. Much of the planted mahogany in South Florida is Cuban. |
