Default Tragedy or triumph

I'll just post this without comment:

So...Gibson "Firebird X" guitars. Were they counterfeits? Someone (besides me) hated the cheesy finishes? Seems to me that they could have at least donated them to some hard-up inner-city music program or just give them away to kids who would like to learn.

At very least, they could have plugged these into a wall of Marshall stacks, cranked up to 10, and recorded the mayhem...experimental 'Musique Concrete', sort of a heavy metal John Cage type deal.

As I have little interest in solid electric guitars, and Gibson brands even less, thisv doesn't excite much emotion.

I used to work with a very large American multinational company that would build products to order, and to plan and also, we used to say, "built to scrap".

This last category was product that we "hoped" would be sold, but was already outdated/ replaced, but it was impractical to stop production without laying people off in non US countries where, the labour laws were considerably more strict than n the USA.
These products were largely electronic/metals and I "trust" that we managed to recycle a fair degree of them.

We have a video here of rather irresponsible/amateurish destruction of a large quantity of finished items. We have no backstory.

Edit : We have a back story : https://www.musicradar.com/news/gibs...tars-heres-why

It was a colossal failure, especially when you factor in the typical Gibson clientele who isn't a fan of "new" things.

I'd still rather donate these guitars to kids who otherwise can't afford a guitar.

I was a teacher in both the public and private sector since 1970, mostly with elementary-/junior-high-age students...

I actually had the opportunity to handle a Firebird X shortly after its introduction...

Giving one of these to an unsuspecting kid would be considered child abuse IMO...

I haven't read through all the comments on The Gear Page about this, but apparently Gibson claims the guitars were either damaged, defective or otherwise unplayable and not suitable for sale...

Gibson destroys all their 'blemish' guitars too - a neat way for them to ensure that their high prices stay high.

I read about this earlier today. Here's something to consider. If these guitars were not well made (which Gibson said they were not), then putting them out to the public, either for a price or free, will only damage the brand name. It's a shame to think they destroyed the guitars but it must have been more cost effective than trying to salvage it.

There have been significant questions as to the Quality Control at Gibson. A lot of newer instruments have been found lacking. This may also be because the folks at Gibson are now charging ridiculous sums for lower end models and seem to have difficulty in keeping the builds to a standard found acceptable by purchasers.

Not from me. This 2018 Songwriter 12-string out of Bozeman came to me flawless....

Wonder how many guitar players' wives would like to be driving that rig?

I own many Gibsons, have played them for most of my life.

People also bash Mopars.

And Apple.

I like all that stuff.
