Default Getting old sucks, Rant

Rant begin

I'm 60 years old, all my friends are fat, lazy, out of shape couch potatoes.

I've been searching for a hiking and back packing partner. I've been posting up on craigslist, meetup, local mom and pop sports shop. I'm married and the only replies I've had are from divorced women. I've told them that there would have to be at least three of us. Even though it would be about hiking, the optics is just wrong if it's just the two of us.

Rant over

Look at the positive side - maybe you still got it!

I still got it for outdoors adventures, the drive, the desire for new rushes and for new vistas, as for the ladies, it doesn't matter, I've been married for 40 years this year and there's no way I would ever jeopardize what I have with my wife. She use to be able to go with me but time has been cruel to her knees. This coming Tuesday she gets one of them replaced.....ouch.

You're a wise man. No way I'd risk ever jeopardizing what I have with my wife.
Watch out for those divorcees!

p.s. I'd hike with ya, but am a bit far away.

Too bad you're not closer to Portland... my older brother is 63 and very much into backpacking, hiking, etc. He has the same frustrations that you have.

Are you just looking to bike with people of your generation? Isn’t there a local group that posts on meetup.com or Facebook? I can’t imagine many people actually placing ads anywhere else for a partner for anything. The only people who answer those are lonely people with baggage. You’re lucky a psychopath hasn’t answered.

LOL - this is exactly why we moved to a large 55+ retirement community - new playmates.

I'm 70, and my romance is 67. I'm a biker, racket-sports player, skier, musician, woodworker and golfer. She's the same, substituting watercolor for woodworking. NONE of our old friends are up to such activities any more, but ALL of our new ones in here are. When we moved into this close-knit community of 17,000 people with an internal communications system and probably 50 locations of social contact, it was easy for us to find people who are into the same thing we are.

Just wait until you’re 73 like me.

Your friends won’t be lazy, out of shape couch potatoes because they’ll be planted and looking at the turf from the wrong side!

Try taking walks on your own. They can be therapeutic.

I guess it depends on whether you’re an Introvert or Extrovert? An introvert gets rejuvenated by spending time alone. An extrovert gets rejuvenated socialising with friends.

although you like hiking, look into running. Great solo exercise sport and will meet up with like minded fitness folks at races and likely find some outdoorsy folks there.

I'll be 70 in December, most folks guess me to be anywhere from 55-60.
My wife and I both look young for our ages. We work out twice a week and we are not overweight. Most of our peers are and they look and act a lot older than their ages.
Hopefully, you can find some folks your age to stay active with. if not, go younger.
