Saw him a couple years ago at farm aid. Excellent warm-up act for Neil Young.

hey crowdedstr,

let me say this nicely..you need to read before you mouth off. it's ignorant to assume.

read my initial post again:

Quote:
I'LL GIVE YOU FELLAS $100 EACH TO QUIT POSTING THESE DAVE MATTHEWS THREADS..

sorry, it's just getting overwhelming..and I like dave..
where, exactly, did I crack on the DMB? huh? where? My post was a half-joke man...because there was about 5 threads on dave in the "view new threads" page..

don't read things into a post that aren't there..

I put the rolling eyes in to joke with pipsqueak. I can see where that might be taken the wrong way..my bad.

you wanna arm wrestle? get the frustrations out?

peace,

chris

I see it! Right there, you say Dave Matthews sucks. I wholeheartedly agree.

Sorry, I think they all know I'm joking. All in good fun. Actually, I was going to say too, that this is one of the nice threads where we can all disagree on our opinions and still be nice and have fun with each other. Excellent change of pace...

Excellent change of pace...

Hey, how 'bout some of you Dave-heads recommending the "essential" Dave songs. I have to admit I have almost no Dave exposure (yes, I've been living in a cave) but have really dug what I've heard...I just don't want to buy a bunch of CDs to get the one or two best ones.

I'd appreciate it.

I think his "hits" are hits for a reason. I like "Crash" and "The Space Between". He played both of those solo acoustic at Farm Aid and, while I joked about him being a "warm up" for Neil, I actually felt lucky to see him play live and solo. It was a fantasic and intimate performance. I'm not a "fan", but I appreciate some of his songs and, certainly, his songwriting and performing abilities.

Truthfully, I think his band is talented, but I'm just no crazy about the ensemble and arrangements. I think Matthews is at his best when he is at the microphone, with his acoustic guitar and no band, and keeping it to a 4-5 minute straight-ahead song verse-chorus-verse-chorus. When it goes off the deep end into jam oblivion, he loses me. (And, if I can enjoy certain types of indulgent jam oblivion -- particularly Neil Youngs). The only Dave Mattews CD I own right now is "Live at Luther College". I don't see that changing any time soon unless someone can convince me otherwise.
