Default my electric guitar

I play my acoustic every day. A while back I purchased a fender strat at an estate sale. So, lately I've decided to at least learn how to use it.
I have a Roland amp, got that at the same estate sale.

Can someone give me a basic course in plugging in, setting the amp buttons or knobs, and ......... because it came with the amp .. what is an effect pedal ? how do these things work.

Hope I'm not in the wrong room .. if I am, please direct me

I'm trying to learn a little that's all

What's the amp? They're all different.

What kind of electric guitar sound do you like?

knowing what the amp is would help us help you understand what it's capabilities are.

in layman terms, treble/bass/mid (midrange) are the Equalizer/Tone controls.

The more you dial in of one or the other, but more you are increasing the frequencies managed with each control

but if we're to help with more, the model of the amp would be the thing.

effects pedals are just that, effects are devices to enhance the sound.

reverb/delay/modulation/over drive or distortion.

it's got all the potential to be a big ol' can of worms because there are literally thousands of them out there

Oh nice, you got yourself a great little setup there.

Ok, so basically outside of the EQ, you've got the effects knobs, which are really just "try out and see what you think" and of course the reverb, which in a house, a bit is always nice.

You have amp models, that basically range from "cleanest" to "most distorted." In each model, volume is volume, and gain will push the model into more "grit."

For a great starting point, try the Vox model (might say something like Brit combo?) set the gain knob about 10 o'clock, EQ flat (12 noon)

Run all the knobs on your guitar at 10. Flip to the back pickup (selector all the way to the right) turn up the volume on the amp at least halfway, and strum an open G chord, hard.

Let me know how you like that

You came to the right place, jasperguitar! What does the pedal say on it? Model name and company name would be great. The CoolCats on here will have you up and running in no time!

Do this! Mr. B seems to know exactly what you got there, I've never used a cube, but I know a lot of guys that do use them and none of them have anything but praise.

So yea.. I agree, what you have there is a pretty good "starter" pack for a guy looking to move into Electrics from Acoustic only

The MIM Fenders are solid guitars, as for the pickups, if those were swapped out, I would say that was probably some what of an improvement to the stock ones. Not knowing what they are we'd not be able to give you any hint on how they stack up.
The stock pickups however were not horrible on these. It's a "+" that this was already done before you took ownership.

but as mentioned, you have a decent rig there. Don't "fret" the details ,

just play it.

Just curious did you get a pedal, or just asking what they are

If just asking,,,, they are an external unit ,,with either a single or multiple effect/s (depending on the pedal) and the have one or more foot switch/s that you can trigger them on and off with while playing.

This is a single effect (an overdrive) pedal ,,, the metal button on the bottom is the foot switch.

I have a Roland cube amp, they are nice for getting a big sound at a low volume since they are solid state.
For starters you can max out the bass treble and midrange knobs.
I tend to alternate between the clean setting and the rectifier setting with the gain maxed out…

I am not a pedal person, but in general OD pedals work better running into a tube amp. They sound fuzzier and harsher into a solid state amp…

A nice little boost pedal. Will add some dirt or grind or hair, however you would describe a dirtier tone, from your guitar and amp. Can also be used as a clean boost to add a little sustain and clarity to your single note playing. All of this hinges on how much you twist the LEVEL and GAIN knobs.
Some LEVEL(volume) and a little GAIN gets you a clean, clear boost and sustain.
LEVEL and a lot of GAIN gets you thick, bluesy, crunchy sound.
Have fun, turn the knobs and see what sounds you like.
The low and high knobs are bass and treble.
I am sure the mavens will add more to my light hearted descriptor!

I have a similar setup. I basically run my clean channel pretty clean, set the pedal with the level pretty high and just enough gain to add a little bit of crunch. Then set the OD channel to taste. Boosting the OD channel with the pedal can introduce more gain, and usually a different texture/ feel/ eq.

I've never owned that particular pedal, but I see that it has both a bass and treble knob. On the pedals I've owned that had that controll layout the mids are pre-set, so turning both tone knobs lower makes the mids more pronounced, while bringing them up produces a more scooped sound.

Between the boost pedal and the channel footswitch I can bounce from reggae/ country tones, all the way up to hard rock/ metal territory on the fly.
