For me it's a "no contest". I would buy the L03. All wood, balanced voicing.
I never had any problems with the neck on mine. That being said, not everyone gets along with the Larrivee necks. A 214 is a very easy player for most and it's a nice guitar. As the others have said, for the money the Larrivee is a better guitar...it just is. Makes no difference, it's your call. Either way you decide is good.

Both are really good guitars for the money. If it’s not your forever guitar you should consider its resale value. If that’s the case you should buy the Taylor.

For me, while I would probably pick the Larrivee, but I would suggest trying to play a couple of these guitars. Even if the Larrivee is a nicer guitar, all solid and well built, you may prefer the tone of the Taylor... or not. Never buy a guitar based on its specs on paper. Buy the guitar you like the best. Unfortunately, there's no way to determine that without knowing how they sound.

03 owner (2016 L-03 sp) here irritated that someone's letting a newish one go for that price. Make sure you don't hate the Larrivee neck radius first (doubt you will without years of being accustomed to smaller radius necks)

Y'all know the OP's only post on AGF was about a year ago? Never even bothered to respond to his own thread.

Larrivee
Larrivee for sure. Be sure you check it thoroughly though, or have someone else look it over for damage , dehydration, lifting bridge, etc., etc. Any/every used guitar can have sneaky little issues. I own 4 Larrivees and love them all!

If you can play both, that would be best. But I have played both and would choose the Larrivee L-03. Wonderful woody guitar.

I actually have both.
The Larivee is a 2001 if I remember correctly, and the Taylor is a ce version. For those prices I'd buy both, as they're totally different sounding but fantastic guitars. That Larivee for $650 is a tremendous bargain, and based on that, if I had to buy just one, that would be it. They are both quality instruments, the Larivee is all solid woods, while the Taylor has laminated sides and back. Tone is subjective and therefore almost inconsequential when considering others opinions. Listen to both and decide. |
