The consensus is to run from this. I'm still holding on to a little hope, like what if I got that for like 700? Probably still not worth it, Gibsons are out of what I could justify for a guitar, so the idea of getting one cheap because of being beat up is awesome, I love beat up character, but as someone else said, this is beyond character. Frustrating, oh well.

At an absolute minimum you would have to have the guitar assessed by a luthier I think...Maybe you could low ball them and it would all work out, could be touched up to your satisfaction, have no broken braces or other significant issues, etc....who knows...

I see damage like that and it says something about the life of the guitar to this point, the care the owner took potentially more generally, etc...That’s all I’m saying...

You’ll low ball him/her, they’ll get all offended likely, etc...Just seems like a hassle...You might view it as an opportunity...All good...I would never pay the price they are asking...

If it were me, I would only accept the guitar free of charge.
Then get a bid on repairs including minimum work and complete repair including refinish.

There is likely some brace issues and who knows what else.
Then after knowing what the repair costs would be, decide on how much to put into the guitar.

So like others have said, keep looking.

I’ll join the consensus. Pass. The fact they listed it at that price to start with is a red flag to me. Find a good guitar that you want, and be willing to pay a fair price.

I love my AJ but there are way better ones out there. That top will never sound right. That's your speaker.

BTW - That exact (damaged) AJ is still for sale on reverb. After being listed for more than 6 months, reverb lists it as "Expected to Sell Soon". You gotta love that!

Yikes I'm not surprised. I feel bad for the owner, he probably paid way too much for it if the damage was in fact inflicted by the original owner, and now he can't get rid of it without taking a huge loss unless someone else over pays for it.
At this point I'd probably buy it for $500, but no one will want to sell a gibson for that.

Edit*
I notice there's 9 offers, obviously he is not ready to let it go for a big loss.

Anyway, came across this. Looks very abused, apparently by first owner. It's a 2013, that top looks bad and the binding chip looks bad. He says the top has been repaired.
This is in Canadian dollars, so for instance if a new guitar costs $700 in the u.s, the same guitar new here will likely cost about $1000.
Anyway, do you think the price he's asking is still steep for the damage?
