I've got some scumbag in FLA trying to hack into my Amazon account every day. Twice yesterday.

Amazon is good about blocking it and alerting me.

Watch your credit card bills carefully too. Yesterday I noticed an $1800+ charge on my business card. I called the number listed on the bill and it was Paypal. This card isn't associated with my paypal account and I hadn't used paypal since September. I called my bank and the fraud person said they were getting a lot of these bogus paypal charges recently.

So card cancelled, new card being mailed and the charge will be removed as soon as the fraud division verifies it as a bogus charge.

Be careful out there!!!

This morning I got a call from Washington, DC.

The voicemail said:

“If we don’t hear from your end then we will be forced to take impeachment against you press one to get connected to our officers”

Hmm.

In doing enterprise security and monitoring what goes on when around 300 - 900 guests (customers, vendors) and employees a day use our guest network segments.....

People are falling for spoofs that re-use some same graphics Google, Amazon and Microsoft use. If you don't keep your systems patched and still use Windows 7 look in the mirror and call yourself a fool.

Set up MFA/2FA (multi or 2 factor authentication) where you can. If your bank, insurer, health system etc has a vetted mobile app consider that over a browser to do your business.

Don't recycle passwords and use a known good password manager such as LastPass.

I'll offer this from having to monitor millions of Internet requests per month. Now we have almost 200 Apples in what used to be a Windows world but still far more Windows systems. Even against patched managed Windows 10 there's an obvious lack of security incidents. It is also impossible to beat the price and performance some of the Apple products have. A lot of people will boost their security along with performance and value if they compute with the M1 Air and Mini computers.

Default more scams

I have been receiving e mails from unknown entities thanking me for my purchase. included in the email is a link to use to cancel or confirm etc.

I just delete. My CC has service that alerts me when a CC purchase is made without the actual card being used.

This just happened to me. Someone got in and got in deep. Amazon was absolutely horrible about getting it corrected. I got the run-around for nearly a month. My recommendation is that you have two-factor turned on, you increase the sophistication of your password, and that you change it frequently.

MFA/2FA is vital. It's something many entities require and in many cases it's become quite simple so we are kind of at a tipping point where people complaining about some compromises have to stop - there's a good solution.

My suggestion is have the Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator and other major ones on your phone. There's also the sign in with Apple mechanism that shows up as an option more and more.

The password management systems I mentioned will help people with your great tip on password hygiene and sophistication.

I don't know whether it is a marketing ploy or a scam, but I got a text this evening from Mary, who is a realtor and will sell my house for a flat fee of $1500. I did not click on the link.

Second one, yesterday I got an email from Paypal that my account has been "restricted." I got it on my phone and couldn't check it closer so I just left it there. Today I checked where it actually came from and it most certainly was not from Paypal. They had all the right logos and everything though. It looked official.

Dang it!! I new that email from the Nigerian prince was on the up and up. Now I've waited too long and he chose to send it to you, instead. I should have jumped on it when I had the chance.

Did it have your name on it?

It's a giveaway when anything starts with 'Dear Customer' and not your actual name.

That can be a tip but the training everyone needs is to be aware of actual addresses, return address that doesn't match the actual address, and mail headers.

Most decent mail client programs let you view the message header. The message header that accompanies every message shows the actual sender(s) of the message and where it travelled.

Related is the important skill to hover your cursor over a link to see if the link and link's description match.

There's a lot of great video content to help learn this stuff.

I got this in the 'ol e-mail box this morning.

A quick Google search on the phone number reveals it's a scam. Well, that and the fact that I've never had any dealings whatsoever with Geek Squad...
