No. The gifts derive a good part of the pleasure they impart to me by the love embodied in the process of being given by someone I love. That is to say, in words of a normal person: I like gifts especially because someone (else) I love, gave 'em to me.

Rlink, don't really call them Christmas presents per-say....but if something I want comes on a super sale and it is the holidays, yes I have been known to buy myself a present...like those tuners people are talking about on the main forum for example.

I went completely bonkers in 2021. National Style 1, matching Fender Strat and Tele, Marshall SC20C amp, bunch of pedals etc. and a big bulk string purchase. I did give my Gibson L-1 to my daughter though so I have been good in a small way. Plus I did get a couple of raises this year.

So no presents for myself for a good long while, maybe even forever (yeah right).

The other day I bought some black ink for my printer. I also found a great deal online for the D'addario Classical strings I use.

These were the first things other than food and gas that I've bought for myself in several months.

Just too many unknowns right now.

At this point in my life I don't really need "things". I'm far more interested in spending money on experiences, traveling and such.

When family asks what I want for Christmas (or my birthday), I simply say "money towards a plane ticket".

I can take care of the rest...

You sound like my wife. [emoji1787]

We have a vacation planned for spring next year and she’s obsessed with saving as much money as possible, so she gets irritated when I show up with a new guitar. I also like to travel, and for money not being an issue when I travel, but I also like things. [emoji23]

So far this year I bought 8 guitars (traded two), 3 amps (traded two), built a pedal board and collected over 10 pedals.

And there’s still a whole month left. [emoji23]

My birthday is in late November, so I have a self-imposed moratorium on buying anything for myself between it and Christmas.

I will admit to the occasional slip, but only for things which I’d never dream of putting on a Christmas list.

In our family, my wife's side because I don't have any close family, the whole bunch are very organized people and they need a list. So we all make up our lists and everyone shares it. What we get we get and what don't get we don't get.

My friend buys himself a present every year, wraps it up and puts it under the tree. He says it is from Santa.

Are you calling them all Christmas presents or are you just buying? I'm good at buying, but I take November and December off to give my family a chance. I'll pick it up again after the holidays.

I send a list to my wife and (adult) kids with some ideas - books, CD's, good coffee, usually stuff under $50. I look at their lists and get them one or two things they ask for (I don't mind spending money on them at all).

The kids usually get me something I've asked for. My wife never will - she gets me what she wants me to want (usually clothes).

So, when there's something I want that costs more than I think my kids should spend, I buy it for myself and say it's from "Santa".

I also buy stuff for myself (and others) throughout the year, not just Christmas.
