Maybe it's time to go back to that Taylor you gave up?

Nope. Difference here is I’m very happy with my guitars, just looking for variety. Don’t miss my 814ce one bit. I’m actually surprised how much I like the Gibson!

Interesting and didn’t even consider a D35. I think I’m looking for scalloped bracing.

Plus 1 on the D35. If you haven't tried one yet you should definitely give it test drive. We went to Gruhn's last summer and played a D-42 or 45 or both, can't remember, must have had dead strings as our expectations were not met. OTOH, picked up a D-35, still thinking about that guitar. Like they say, each guitar is different etc etc, YMMV

The new D35's do have forward shifted and scalloped bracing.

Well....The D-18 sold pending payment. That was FAST....

The D-18 became a fast friend, and I'll miss her, but if you guys remember, I bought the D-18 back when I was wishy washy on the new D-28s. I've actually found a D-28 similarly spec'd to my Custom 000-28 that I'm interested in.

The good thing about selling a guitar is that you get to go shopping lol.

That's the one with the 3 piece back, right?

Man, you guys are making me sad. My HD28V sounds great to my ears.

Interesting. What is it that you think elevates a D-35 to Style 40 status? I’ve always thought of the D-35 as being akin to D-28s and D-18s, which all sell at roughly the same price point...

I prefer the D35 bass sound a lot more than 18/28's. To my ear the difference to the D4_'s is a lot more subtle, less tonal difference than you get from changing out old strings. If you get it from an AGF sponsor the D35 price point will put a grin on your face too. I actually like the D35 sound over the D40's.

Yep...I understand that the D-35 is designed to have more bass than the 18s/28s. And that the tonal difference between D-41s/42s/45s is subtle given that under the hood they all have HD-28 specs. And that our AGF sponsors offer great prices and CS...which is why I’ve bought my guitars almost exclusively from them for years.

...but none of that explains why you think “D35's are D4_'s without the bling.” But, hey...sharing opinions is what AGF is all about. So thanks for sharing yours.

Boy that escalated quickly!

I know I couldn’t own just one guitar, but that’s me, and I’m lucky enough to be able to afford my silliness.

I have a J50, a new Eastman, a Bird, a D18, a D15, among others. I have owned a dozen other Martins, including rosewood ones. I suppose the two that will never go anywhere are the J50 and the D18.

My gigging buddy has a D41, and to him it’s the grail. To me? Meh. Different ears.

If I were you and wanting to own two only, and the D41/45 spoke to you, grab that and keep your J45. You be covered!

Have fun. If college is covered and you got the scratch, by all means have fun.

True.

Is the op over his gas yet? If not there is a sweet D45 right here in our classifieds:
https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=507336

I bet it sounds wonderful.

I guess I should confess that I couldn't go through with the sale on the D-18. As I was putting it in the shipping box, my heart just sunk and I couldn't. It really is a great one and I felt terrible for the buyer. I was honest with the buyer and apologized greatly.

So, no more gas for me. If I do decide I need a Rosewood dread, I will have to find one before I sell such an amazing guitar.
