Modest restoration on old Takamine
Hi..
I have an old Takamine mini jumbo that i want to do my first guitar project on.. I'd like to just do a basic refinish on the body of the guitar. Initially, I need some advice on removing the bridge and the pick guard Not sure what type of glue(s) Im going to be dealing with..I've been watching vids on removing pick guards and bridges..Im hoping to stay with non specialized tools such as the various wood heaters available for instrument makers.. I guess the common suggestion is to use an iron..wondering what the best setup to protect the wood and finish etc would be? Anyhow..fire away if you have time..being pointed to some good resources is always good too.. So..bridge removal and pickguard removal..thanks! Last edited by Krackle; 03-26-2018 at 02:03 PM. |

everything came off nicely, hair dryer for the pick guard and and iron for the bridge>>was able to sand-stain and touch up..and then reinstall the bridge late last night..used the machine bolt method..made a couple of bars with appropriate hole cutouts for top of bridge and inside the guitar..solid..shimmed the 'wings' of the bridge with shims under the ends of the bar part of the clamp on either side..bridge feels very solid
Put my first coat of Nitro in a can on just now.. : ) |
