I really enjoyed that. Good playing and sound too which is faithful to the original.

When I did it on my YT channel I played it slightly faster and with no reverb. As you say the synch is way out but the music more than makes up for that.

I like the sensitivity in your playing.

On the other hand, be careful not to drop any notes. There are several dropped/shortened notes in the middle of phrases (e.g., at the 8s mark) which you need to pay attention to.

Also, Masaaki Kishibe has a fairly relaxed feel to his ornaments -- but it still has to be played on time (e.g., at 24s and 50s). You do play it well at the 1m33s mark but miss it again in subsequent sections.

In the section that starts at 1m40s, you are adding a beat in your phrasing that throws off the entire phrase. You repeat the same mistake at 1m58s. Even though this is a ballad and Masaaki uses some rubato at the start of his phrases, you should still be able to tap your foot to the song. If you do that, it becomes evident that those extra notes were incorrectly added.

In the very last phrase, at 3m25s, you are missing the first note and skipping a beat. Listen to the original again. Masaaki starts the sentence with the bass string.

That would be my basic feedback -- areas which need to be addressed before you can start polishing your interpretation.

Once you are more comfortable with this piece, it will be a matter of feeling the music better and making sure it flows. Also, try to minimize string noise... You probably can't hear much of it while playing but on the recording it's a little harsh.

I know this tune pretty well so feel free to PM me with any questions.

Thanks for the detailed feedback Mau - much appreciated. The timing and shortened notes are clear now I listen back.

It was your recording that inspired me to record this..
