Default "The Rose" (inspired by JoeCharter)

Few players on AGF do slow tempo instrumentals better than Mau (JoeCharter). He plays with great precision and I always enjoy his recordings. When I recently heard Martin Tallstrom's version of the classic song "The Rose", made popular in 1979 by Bette Midler, it immediately made me think of Mau's tasteful approach to fingerstyle. Hope you enjoy:

Played on my Hatcher Greta...she just turned two last month. Sounded spectacular when I first bought it and it just keeps getting better over time. How on earth does Mark Hatcher do that?

Very nice! That Greta is just the guitar for that song! Thanks for sharing, Jon

Hatcher...Mau....Martin are all good ingredients for a class piece such as this. Your guitar sounds wonderful and so does your playing friend. Thanks.

Wow - that was beautiful playing, Jon. What a clear, delicate sound from that Hatcher Greta.

Very nice performance, Jon. And the guitar sounds lovely.

I like the variations starting around the 2m28s mark as it adds more originality and emotion to your arrangement.

Great job.

As for playing slower ballads, I try not to overindulge -- but they're tough to resist...

Mau, it is hard, especially for me, not to sound robotic. Folks like Martin Tallstrom are such masters at adding beautiful dynamics and nuance. Plus he gets a killer deep reverb that I can't replicate when mastering a track. Curiously, I actually perform the song much better live when I'm plugged into an amp and have more volume along with better reverb and delay. Easier to develop more feeling and connection with the melody. Hope you are well.
