Default Putting an endpin on my guitar

I recently went to a guitar shop yesterday and finally found a guitar end pin. However, they told me that it's better if I just tie it on the head stock, they said it might damage my guitar and affect the sound if I drill and put the end pin in. Is this true or is it safe?

I won't be the one putting my end pin on, I know a guitar technician.

Not a bit of truth there.
I assume you mean a strap button, which installs on the neck heel with a screw. The end pin is at the bottom of the guitar.

The lack of actual knowledge some music stores have really astounds me.
