Default Slotted tuners

Any tips on taking care of the tuners? Lubricant vaseline when they get rusty?

If they are rusty, there might be other things you need to take care of first.

sorry not rusty just a bit hard to turn atm there still pretty new

Most of the time I find tuners that are hard to turn are due to worn parts, example if the worm gear is loose in the cradles when turning against the spur gear it binds during the turn. You can in this situation lightly hammer the cradle closed.

Have you got photos of the gearing on yours

I have some lubrication oil from victorinox meant for a pen knife. I use a really small dab of this on the gear teeth and then rotate the gears so that it covers the entire area, seems to work really well.

try something called "triflow"
At all costs avoid oil seeping into barrel slots - wood doesn't react well to oil.

Many times it is safest to oil tuners by removing them first. I have seen DIY oil jobs that spilled oil all over the underlying wood.

If one of the gears (the cog or toothed gear) is brass, it should not need oil. Some tuners come with instructions to NEVER oil them.

Some new tuners suck and are really hard to turn.

Some tuners have a toothed gear with the center hole drilled off centre, so it turns easily for a while then tight when the cog/toothed-gear presses too hard into the worm gear. Best remedy, get a new set of well made tuners.
