Default pickup question

I have my 1969 D28 with an undersaddle pickup . I just don't like it. the low E string seems to be louder than any of the other strings. I keep this guitar tuned to DADGAD all the time. when I plug it in to my soloamp that low bass note is really annoying. what other pickup system would I be happier with? the K&k system ;I'm very curious about. thanks.

So after 45 years you've come to not like you were pick up's sound? Try with another amp. K&K pick ups are wonderful.

If its an under saddle pik up it my be that over time and numerous string changes that the ribbon under the saddle has shifted slightly. I had a Highlander UST that I would have to do small adjustments to, in order to get rid of the same problem. Loosen up the strings, clamp the with a capo at fret 10 or so, pull the pins and saddle out reach in the sound hole for the two ends of the ribbon and carefully slide it just a bit one way or the other, until you get back to the balance you like. YMMV

It certainly sounds like it needs an adjustment.

Also, before you get rid of it, see if you can try out an aura pedal with it. They certainly help with the tone! I doubt they would solve the loud string though
