Hey folks, it would be awesome if you could take the time to have a listen to my new song "No Enemies No Friends" a bit of a contemporary bluesy, well not sure, but its getting some good response, thx a bunch!

Great song! Very catchy, and the video production was awesome. The only thing about the recording that I didn't care for was that the vocals were a bit buried by the guitar. In places there are a lot of words and I had to strain to try and make them out. you've got a really nice voice, so don't be afraid to showcase it

Video is outstanding.

I think the vocal level was fine in comparaison to the gtr . Maybe even a few db to much.
This is purely subjective but ,if it were me I would back off on the vocal verb a few db. or put some more of the same verb on the guitar or both ( back off the vocal and raise the gtr.). Its a decent sounding reverb but I think unless you are shooting for the contrast specifically it sounds to me like the vocal is in a different space, bigger and more resonate than the guitar. The guitar sounds more dry.

I actually just got the software and I found for a quick demo, the Rode Classic I was using picked up the vocal and the guitar at the same time nicely enough for the purpose of getting the song out there. I will certainly redo this recording once I learn what I am doing, this site is great for advice but a lot of the recording stuff is over my head so I will just have to do my best and see what comes out

Default Setup

Well I don't know much about the video but here is what my friend Rob Anderson wrote about it...

from Rob: Thank-you all from the "video guy" for the interest in Roly's music video. The song presented here is very catchy and we worked hard to keep the focus on the performance. To sync between cameras, the latest Apple Final Cut Pro video editing software is capable of aligning the individual files based on the audio wave form. The synchronization is perhaps the biggest timesaver since moving away from tape based video.

In addition, it was done in my recording room, which is a 17 x 11 bedroom with bass traps in the corners and walls and ceilings. Directly on my left side about a16 inches off the floor was a shaded living room lamp and on my right side at just about head head was a light box with a white opaque plastic shade, that I builtt for 35 dollars from home depot. One Still camcorder filming from my front right and another hand/minitripod held from my front left doing the head shot, now Im not sure how he got the contrast but I will ask him to write something since many people have asked.

The Audio was a a Used Rode Classic Mic that I bought for 1000 bucks originally over 2000.00 back in 1997, Logic Studio running through an Apogee duet two (keep in mind I'm just throwing out names terms as I'm not really sure what it all means since I have no real video or audio experience other than taping off the radio with my cassettes in the 80's) I just read the forums and came up with the bass traps and gear which I am still paying for. So If Your familiar with Logic Pro, I used Goldverb Reverb in the default setting but with mostly all the reverb time shaved off, standard compression that came with the "Bright Guitar setting" played with the channel EQ a bit and through in a white noise denoiser which didn't do a whole lot. I recorded both Vocal and Guitar in Cardoid setting with the mic no more than 16 -18 inches away pointing towards the 12 fret and up bit towards my head. thats pretty much it...wish I could add more...thx for taking a look it makes it that much more satisfying when your songs are heard

Cheers, Roly

Haha, we are laughing about that and the shadow from my left glasses lens that makes it look like I have a super highbrow, not sure, but if it was perfect I don't think it would be as fun

My Panasonic digital camcorder, it was around 700 bucks when I bought it last year not sure of the model, my buddy that did the shoot has it, and not sure what his camcorder is but close to the same idea, just an older model

I almost had to like it since it showed off the nice sound of the Martin 000-15, a guitar I'm quite fond of (I'm fond of mine anyway!)!
