Default Captain O'Kane - DADGAD fingerstyle O'Carolan ?

Hi,

My new video : "Captain O'Kane", DADGAD fingersyle capo 2.
Often attributed to O'Carolan

I just wanted to test my new 4k Zoom Q2n camera to enjoy the video in very high resolution. Once the tune was recorded, I found the result suitable enough to put it on my YouTube channel.

Hope you like it

Fine playing and sound. Does the video show the actual audio recording time or was it synched later?

I’m not sure I understand the question, but the video was recorded at once. The sound and image come from the same shot with my Q2n 4K Zoom.

OK. Thought the sound was too good to be just the Zoom's mikes. That Zoom records audio quite well.

Very nice!

That Zoom does an amazing job, too. What video software did you use to edit that?

Like the precise clean/light touch. ( and video editing)
Listened some other your videos on YT. And heared that you like to keep on the "basso bordone" often present along your celtic gaelic arrangements.
Is it a feeling choice ?

Congratulations.

It’s more of a "stylistic choice". Traditional Irish music is played by quite special instruments and the most characteristic is the Uilleann Pipes. This bagpipe uses a D drone on which the melody is played. That’s why the vast majority of tunes are composed on modes from the major D scale. This is also the reason why DADGAD tuning adapts very well to this music.

The modal harmony is therefore to be preferred over the tonal harmony and the fact of using a constant drone makes it possible to find "the spirit" of this music since in the eighteenth and nineteenth century, there was generally no harmony on the melodies except for this drone of bagpipes.

Instruments able to provide a richer accompaniment were rarer in popular music (harps) or were introduced later in this music (bass diatonic accordions, piano, guitar, bouzouki...)
