Default A.J.Lucas 12 string alto guitar

This was a very interesting commission. The spec, was to build a short scale (501.6mm) 12 string guitar strung in unison courses that could also double as a 5-course cittern. I made an alternative nut and saddle for the 5-course option with slotted saddle as the strings would not be in direct alignment with the bridge pins.

The soundboard is European spruce and the back, sides, fingerboard and head veneers cocobolo. The neck is Honduras mahogany and the bridge Madagascar rosewood. The finish is French polish.

That's a beautifukl guitar. I love smaller 12-strings.

With such a short scale, does it carry standard tuning or do you tune it differently?

You are running unisons on all six? Can you run the four traditional 12-string octaves and two treble unisons?

In other words, could it be used as a traditional twelve string as well?

I should have mentioned: it's tuned up a fourth - A-A. The pairs are all unison and there's quite a high tension so I don't think it would stand octave tuning. It has more of a mandolin family tonality to it than 12 string guitar I would say.

I'd love to see the photos too. Sounds like it's similar to a Veillette Terz 12.

I can still see them. Any idea what might be the problem? (I haven't removed them).

I tried it in several browsers on my Apple Mac, but no luck!

A shame. Always like seeing pictures of your guitars Mr Lucas, great to see some representation from our side of the Atlantic!

Did you move the photos to a different location in PhotoBucket - like a different album? That will break the links.

I speak from experience
