Help with Martin 000 suggestions
Hi Everyone. My boss aka the wifey pooh has approved my the budget for my next guitar. I have a couple of must have's but open on other things. I want to buy used and I'm at $3,000. I'm looking at Martin 000's, the short scale is a must have. The other must have is the neck. I don't really like the new profile necks. The modified low oval is a little too thin. I really like my D-28 neck (it's a few years old, not the reimagined series. I played a 000-28EC recently, and I'm OK with that neck as well.
I could be swayed either way with Mahogany or Rosewood and sunburst or natural. I have my eye on a really nice 000-28EC, but what other used models might land in my price range? I'm not that familiar with all the stuff that might be discontinued but exists in the used market, like the vintage series models. The 00-18V looks really sweet too, but I'd rather have the 000 size. I play mostly at home, relaxing in my basement, blues and folky stuff. Anywho, any suggestions? Cheers and stay safe folks |

Agree regarding neck.
Look for an 000-18 GE which has mod V neck. I have both the standard and GE. Love the mod V neck and the GE is just more guitar in general.

I agree with this. The GEs are very hard to beat.

I have a 000-18 Golden Era, but find myself gasing for an 000-28EC (alongside. not instead of), because I feel a bit of a need for some RW in my life.
So no help from me then Last edited by Bonzo; 10-22-2021 at 11:14 AM. |

If you can find one, Martin Steve Miller Signature model “Pegasus”.
It’s a 000c with Engelman top and quilted hog b/s. I really liked the one I had. I prefer long scale, the only reason I sold it.

Thank you for the suggestions. Can anyone ballpark what the used value of an 00-18V should be?

…I’m thinking about 2400.00-2600.00….That’s high compared to a few years back but there’s no way of knowing where prices are going….

For a rosewood model, the 000-28EC in sunburst is a fine choice and will fall into your price ranged used. And well, sunburst..
For "00" if you are considering, the CEO-7 (mahogany back/sides), also sunburst, has a tone larger than it's size with it's slope shoulder design and Adirondack top. It also features a "Mod-v" neck shape. The other options listed are great as well, good luck!

I’ll second the recommendation that you check out a CEO-7. The 000-18GE and 00-18V are fine guitars, if you can find a good used one, but so is the CEO-7 and it’s available new today because Martin is still making them. And they’re well within your budget new - they’re just a screaming value. It also has a Mod-V neck, is sized a bit closer to an 000 than an 00, and had a great Adirondack top and GE bracing.
My two acoustic guitars are the CEO-7 and 000-28EC. I love em both - they really cover the mahogany to rosewood sound spectrum. They both have great (though not identical) Mod-V necks. I love and paid a good deal more for the 000-28EC, but if I was gonna only keep one, it would be the CEO-7. I actually thought about selling the 000-28EC recently to fund something else, but I came to my senses. I wouldn’t consider selling the CEO-7 for anything, unless I suddenly came into some money and could afford to replace it with a Pre-War mahogany 000 or some other very similar boutique guitar. But that’ll probably never happen… -Ray

I've got an 000-EC and play it once in a while but it doesn't hold a candle to my 00-17. Search for a 30's 00 and explain to your boss that it's an investment. Value will only go up and you'll be a happier picker.

There is the model that is exclusive to Guitar Center. I have this and after a set-up, I like it. It's solid sapale and solid spruce, and under a grand new https://www.guitarcenter.com/Martin/...ecial&index=12

000-18
The 000-18 has the short scale length. I've really connected with mine. I highly recommend, especially if you plan on singing along with playing.

I think you're right on target with a 000-28 or 000-18, probably can't go wrong with one if that's where you're already looking. Personally I'd look at the GE model like someone else suggested, the Adirondack top would be amazing on a 000 with short scale. Dream guitar!
