Default Purchased my first high(er) end guitar - 1995 Taylor 510

Hey everyone, this is my first post here, so I thought i'd show my first high end guitar purchase that I acquired yesterday.

My 10 year old Epiphone PR-150 is pretty rough around edges and won't stay in tune anymore. This led to me perusing Craigslist for the last few months looking for a used guitar that I could upgrade to until yesterday, when this good-looking 1995 Taylor 510 dreadnought popped up.

It immediately caught my eye, so I contacted the owner and within an hour or so became the new owner.

The guitar is gorgeous with a solid englemann spruce top, solid mahogany sides, one piece mahogany neck (this was made pre-NT necks), ebony fret board and bridge, star-shaped abalone fret inlays and abalone rosette, along with a tortoise pick guard and binding.

There are a few nicks, dings, and scratches around the guitar, which is to be expected with a 25 year old guitar, but nonetheless, is in excellent condition.

It also came with the infamous "pink poodle" Taylor-made (pun intended) original hard shell case which really sweetened the deal for me.

But what really grasped me was the sound. The mahogany back and sides paired with the englemann spruce top along with being aged a fine 25 years provides such a full, deep, and rich sound that I instantly fell in love with.

I think this is a guitar that will stay by my side and age in my hands for years to come.

Beautiful, you'll find many fans here of the mid 90's Taylors.

Enjoy!

My favorite is still my '95 510. Great choice! I've had mine since...1995.

My pickguard was curling up around the edges so I got a Tortoguard for an old-school look.

Love the retro-oldschool look of that pick guard. Was your saddle replaced? It's so white! The nut and saddle on mine are pretty yellowed due to age/sunlight.

Yes. Last year I needed a partial refret. Everything above the 6th was fine, but the first 6 were divoted beyond a level/crown/polish. I had the luthier make me a new bone saddle as long as we were getting surgery and a setup. The nut was fine.

At multiple jam sessions I've heard other players say mine was the best sounding Taylor they've heard. I'm betting yours is just as nice!

Big time congrats! There's nothing like your first high-end guitar. My first high quality guitar was also a Taylor. She was good to me. She took care of me for 17+ years!

Play her in good health!
