Bruce's guitars will have a longer half-life!

While this one is a little larger than my typical guitar, I don't expect it to be THAT boomy.

I've heard Bruce is able to achieve thermonuclear tone and volume! And his guitars really glow with life

Something in these colors really does it for me. I doubt I am capturing it for you, but perhaps I am . . . this is the third varnish coat of a probable 7:

When I get a guitar into finish, as the "P" Kerala is, I start the next one. In this case it's the Schoenberg standard I am making for Eric's Healdsburg presentation. "Standard" is Schoenberg code for 000 ala 1930, a long scale 12 fretter, and usually we make these as cutaways, though not always. This one is a loose interpretation of style 30, in Honduras mahogany and Italian spruce.
The mahogany has some good story attached to it. In the '60's, one of the suppliers of Brazilian Rosewood to Martin, call him Mr B (senior), had a ranch in Mexico and in building he used some of the very special wood he was in a position to acquire. One of these chunks was a big piece of highly flamed Honduran mahogany which he used as the final step for the entrance to the main house (as i understand it, for I have never been there). When his family sold the ranch not long ago, his son (Mr B junior, also in the lutherie supply business) grabbed the piece of mahogany and re-sawed it into guitar sets, supplying it to some of his regular customers as a perk. This guitar is made from one of those sets. |

Fine, fine work, Bruce. Exquisite details and that quarter sawn pernambuco ain't too shabby either.

The 000 body is complete, and I will most likely get the neck done before I leave for the Grass Valley Bluegrass Festival next week. I will be up there with the usually suspects in the Luthier's Pavillion where we will show off out latest and greatest. I also bring along a few violins and string basses which are available for sale, as well as a very nice string bass which I supply to the main stage for the use of traveling bands unable or unwilling to schlepp their own.
The P is curing with all of its finish on, and I expect to assemble it after GVBF. And I will start the single 0 about that same time while I get going on the finish on the 000. I don't suppose I actually need to mention that all 3 of these are unspoken for "spec" guitars, in case you're interested. Not actually available till after HGF, of course. |

I came home from 5 days showing my work at the Grass Valley Bluegrass Festival (perfect weather/great time/broke even $wise) to discover that the Schoenberg 000 is now spoken for. I am just getting back to work and will have progress soon . . . I hope.

Thanks for sharing your work with us, Bruce. I'm looking forward to meeting you and playing your guitars at the Healdsburg festival in August.

Hmmm, some lucky devil has a great eye for fine instruments! What's your plan for the bridge, belly or pyramid?

As spec'd this guitar'll get a pyramid, but I personally feel a LOT better about my belly bridge, so much so that it's the only one I unconditionally guaranty. Perhaps the lucky devil will see fit to let me know his preference. He has a couple of weeks to do so.
