Default Claro OM Habit Forming 'Comparo'

I own a Martin Limited Edition Claro Walnut Cutaway OM [Ed. thanks to Trevor, I've learned how to upload photos and they are on the second page of this thread now...] and now the good folk at Kinnaird Guitars (Steve and Ryan) are putting together their own Claro Walnut Cutaway OM that will give me a good chance to do a bit of a 'comparo' between the Factory and the Custom Shop. (Any doubt on who will 'win'?) I will see if they will post some progress photos here and if I can figure how to upload photos of the Martin, I will do so as well. The pressure is on!

I've found the easiest way to load photos is to load them to photobucket first using their free site. Instructions are pretty straightforward. The when the photo is loaded to an album hold your cursor over it and click on IMG code at the bottom. The just paste it into you thread.

I'm looking forward to this build thread. Claro walnut is one of my faves.

After playing one of Steve's guitars for an extended period a few weeks back, I have no doubt who will win that duel

I thought I would add some build pics. As this one is already underway, I'll include shots of the body coming together by parts. Some today, some tomorrow, etc. but I thought we would start with the back plate.

(above) Gluing in the center inlay

(above) Flamed Maple inlay

(above) Installing center seam reinforcement (made of Bearclaw Sitka to match the top)

(above) Using the go-bar deck to clamp in back braces

(above) Back Braces all carved and waiting for the side assembly.

Hope you enjoy. I'll get more pics up tomorrow.

MMMMMMMMM-mmmmmmmm That looks great and I really like the centerstrip of maple. Claro walnut is one of my favorite tonewoods. It is second in my wood stash next to mahogany.
