Morgan fade is nice
I liked the fade on this Morgan I had for awhile- never really bonded with the guitar though.

The subject of sunbursts, cutaways and slot heads will all have their advocates and their detractors. As in all things guitars, there is no consensus opinion. Sunburst advocates are in my opinion are a minority in the world of flattops which is dominated by historic Nazareth vs. Kalamazoo aesthetics. I personally like both when they are done well.
Here is an example of a well done sunburst on a guitar made for me by John Buscarino.

I think all-round abalone binding needs a burst. I've had them both ways and definitely prefer the burst.

I would want to show that wood off, so I would say no, but if you did go with a sunburst, I would get a transparent variety that still showed off the wood while supplying color.
But that's me...what do YOU like?

I love sunburst tops, but pearl, IMHO, looks better on natural or aged tint tops.

It is very rare that I see a sunburst that doesn't turn me off. BUT if you have pearl or abalone, it shows off FAR better against a dark surface. I would not make any darker than needed. Avoid orangey colors. Here's a thought: the side are dark. Maybe you could match the hue and sort of have it "wrap" around aesthetically, then quickly edge off to natural. I'd have to think about this for a while before I took my own advice.

The sunburst pattern Martin was using in 1932 is my personal favorite

I love dark bursts and edge bursts...
I don't care for Martin's current "guitar shaped" black to light burst, but that one from the 30's is PERFECT. |
