it didn't bother people hundreds of years ago, why now? don't like it? don't listen. easy. when tommy emmanuel does it, it really gets on some people's nerves.

as with everything on the agf, it is all subjective.

play music!

If it's used musically, go for it.

If it's a gimmick, use sparingly.

Does the repeated threads where people complain about strumming hand string tapping technique annoy anyone else or am I just a nut case? I literally can't read it.

If it's the EVH style, I totally agree. If it is very short and add's a little bit to the piece of music, it can be pleasant but in a long duration (anything more than 10 seconds) and done over and over is annoying to me.

Sometimes it's just right, sometimes it's overdone.

Relax, you're more normal than 99.9% of the guitar players out there!!

Like most things, I take it on a case to case basis and move on quickly if I don't like it.

Tapping drives me nuts, it will NEVER be mainstream guitar playing, but rather just an interesting experiment, and is a waste of otherwise great talent.. If you want percussion in your music, add a drummer.

I agree percussion doesn't sound good unless you are at a lively event or dancing at home, or... For acoustic music I am fine with a precise, implied beat.

I'm not a big fan. If used very sparingly, I'm okay with it. the technique doesn't make me want to kick puppies and kittens, but it's not a technique I would buy tickets to see someone play.

It depends. If its not overdone (again, that is a personal opinion) I don't mind it. But, too much is too much, and then it loses my attention.

To me, less is more, and this is one of those cases.

I try and not have a hard and fast rule about anything. I have (unhappily) come to realize that I don't know everything.

This is a technique that can be impressive from a technical/physical standpoint, but - like impressively fast notes - it gets old fast. The posted songs are impressive, but I grew tired of the technique long before the songs ended.
