Some of the fix before recording suggestions are very valid
As far as for what you have already recorded ( not sure what a vsti is) but you could try a Gate plug in and set it cut at the db level of the breathing ( one drawback though is you will also be cutting any of the guitar signal that drop below the gate threshold) so better to fix it going into the recording .

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this before but I will, because, as a recording engineer and guitarist, it is a technique I use and teach to others: hyperoxygenate. That's right. Spend a while breathing deeply to saturate the brain and tissues with oxygen before you start a take. Besides the benefit of causing you to breath more shallowly for a while, it will also relax you and give you a feeling of well-being. If you need to, stop down for more breaths and pick up again. I've been known to stop and do it just before the last measure so that I don't spoil the last ring-out with my humanity.

Stop breathing through your nose.
Don't point the mic toward your face Get a pickup Regards, Ty Ford |

Pointing the mic away from the face will reduce but never completely eliminate heavy breathing sounds. I'm still waiting for a pickup that sounds as good as a decent mic.

1. Can be, but it may vary. Weight loss, especially around the diaphragm, may also help. 2. Exactly, but the combination of 1+2 may make him happy. If not, maybe a Quaalude before performance will relax him sufficiently. 3. The K&K Pure Mini does a pretty nice job if you're not using a flat pick. I have one in my D28s and find it acceptable for finger style. Regards, Ty Ford |

Listening to that track, I can't get over how loud that breathing is relative to the guitar.
My first thought: put the mics a lot closer. |

Heavy Breathing
Hopefully we can hear back from Lacatedral as to whether any of the thoughtful suggestions offered have been helpful.
It always amuses me when someone posts a question to the forum and then goes absent.

MP-76 Mic
Just got one ordered . http://www.tc-helicon.com/en/products/mp-76/ I had read this post before and recalled several other posts asking the same thing . these are some of the spec's on it :
I didn't get the MP-76 because of this one single issue but it's really nice to know I did address it to some degree because I am a heavy breathing harp player with a monster set of lungs . This mic is designed for T.C.Helicon FX units so some of the features mentioned won't mean much to anyone who doesn't use a T.C. Helicon FX unit . It's the [ Breath Noise Rejection ] it has that I wanted to make note of on this post for acoustic guitar players who like me are heavy breathers . I use a T.C.Helicon VoiceLive 3X for my vocal , electric and acoustic instruments and synthesizer guitar . EZ : HR

Fantastic playing. Sounds great.
No one has mentioned this so I will. When I record I pick up the finish of my guitar rubbing against my clothing. The Larrivee has a satin finish. It sounds a lot like your breathing. What type of finish is on your guitar.??

Get a package of Breath-Rite Nasal strips. Use them. They absoutely work. I assume you record with headphones on, yes? See how that affects the proceedings. You could also try a piece of sound absorbing foam fashioned into a 'bib' in front of your mouth/nose, but not too close. A harmonica rack might help to hold it in place. I've got plenty of tracks throughout my 4 CD releases where my breathing can be heard. I try to distract the listener by making the musical content interesting:-) Buena suerte! Howard Emerson |

Great Recording

After considerable listening to your recording all I can say is there is no issue , the breathing I heard was there alright but no where did it detract from the quality and inspiration of the arrangement or the technical execution . Maybe the wind screen(s) will dampen the sound of your breathing but in all reality , I've heard more breathing on other pro stuff like Paco De Luca and such so I'd not worry , cause you nailed it good in all regards . Windscreens will NOT reduce the sound of breathing. They will reduce popping.
