Default What is this wood

First, seasons greetings...

Just had a friend return an old Fender Acoustic. Have not had it for some time and out of curiosity researched it on the Fender site. This is an early 70's F 35 MIJ (my first acoustic) guitar that fender says is spruce top and OBANKOL sides and Back. Anyone ever hear of this type of wood. Or do you think its OVANKOL.

Any way, its a beater and its survived 30 plus years of minimal care and it still plays. In fact I just lowered the strings and will put on a set of lights.

Thanks

I agree, it has to be Ovankol. I tried looking up Obankol and there's nothing out there. Could be a typo by someone since the "b" is right nest to the"v".

Prediction: All the spellings offerred here are pronounced nearly the same. It's probably not a typo, but differences in the romanization of a word not found in a latin language. Ovangkol is an african hardwood and Africa was, of course, colonized by quite a few of those wacky Europeans. If I recall my Spanish, the difference between "v" and "b", and other Latin languages, is much less than English, very slight.
