Wow, what an ordeal, Steve. It would be nice if the learning curve wasn’t so costly, but you’ve obviously adapted well and the guitar is gorgeous! Dave

Thanks, Dave. I don't know what you're using to finish your guitars, but if you are inclined to use Cardinal lacquer, give me a call, and then I will give Ben Wilborn a call to ask him what we should both do.

Okay, back to James's guitar: I did a little more spot-buffing and polishing today, and it looks so good, I went ahead and got the bridge and neck cut in. The bridge is now clamped on and I'm letting the glue set up overnight. We're getting close, James! Here are some photos:

Time to cut in the bridge.

I use a cardstock mask to guard against chisel slips. That little blue rectangle on the bridge mask is what I used to gauge the thickness of the finish on the top. With the bridge footprint cleared away, you can see how much color was applied to this guitar top. Looks like A LOT to me.

The bridge is a perfect fit into its footprint. I use a glass microscope slide to scrape the glueing surface perfectly clean for the glue bond. Slides are really great for light-duty scraping operations.

Et voila! the bridge is glued on! We'll find out tomorrow morning if I glued it on in the right place.
Thanks for looking!

Jeez, maybe I shouldn't look. All those appendages sticking out of my guitar! Maybe guitar making is a bit like making sausage. Tastes great, but probably better if you don't know how that are made.

Count me in as a fan of that guitar. The burst is really pretty, love the color.

Kind of like I have always said, there is not a better color for a car than black when it is clean and all buffed out. Of course it is easier to keep a guitar clean than a car.

Thanks! Yea, I'm pretty excited about it and have already begun to work up the 1st tune I plan to record on it. Steve said it needs to stay with him for a week or so so he can observe and correct the setup since it's under tension now. If all goes as planned, hopefully it'll be shipped out 1st of next week and I'll have it mid next week. Fingers crossed!

I'm going to be shooting some glamour photos of the Eclipse Noir tomorrow, and packing it up to ship to James on Monday. Stay tuned, and I'll post some wrap-up pics of this guitar on Monday or thereabouts. Your long wait is almost over, James!
