Here is my first show and tell post from a couple of years ago and a song that gets a lot of play in our house. Cold Rain and Snow.

I've been playing around with this one for a while. Decided to take a shot at recording it this morning. I've never been comfortable playing lead over these changes, but I took a shot.
Edit: this sounded one way (not too bad) on the headphones I recorded and mixed it with, similarly decent with a set of Apple Airbuds Pro, and absolutely beyond HORRIBLE on a little Bose Soundlink Bluetooth speaker. My wife wanted to hear it - she has to hear me recording one track at a time, so sometimes she's interested in what the finished product sounds like. I played it for her on the Bose and my God, I almost came on here and deleted the post. But then I listened to the first minute or so on headphones again, and back to sorta OK. I guess I'm learning a little about my limits as a sound engineer. I know in the old days, the engineers and mixers used to make sure a song would sound good on a transistor radio. I don't know how to do that - this would sound quite terrible on a transistor radio, which I guess the SoundLink is sort of a modern equivalent of. -Ray

The mix sounds just fine on my budget headphones, Ray. Nice job, I think the solo is great, playing the changes like Jerry
Thanks for keeping the thread alive! |

Here’s another cover of a cover. In learning this I found a version from the second time they ever played it, in 1973. At one point Jerry is teaching Keith the changes out loud during the performance.
This song was kind of mellow and I didn’t really love hearing it in concert, but as time goes on I find myself appreciating it more and more. https://soundcloud.com/user-16619491.../s-8RZMFnOkML2 |

I didn't appreciate this song live as I was more interested in the higher energy ones but I appreciate it much more now. A beautiful song. |

Best version the Dead ever did. Performances like this is why I went to so many Dead shows. |

This one, from back in the "playing with other people" days, is a JGB cover so I'm going with it.
A Jimmy Cliff song from the 1972 movie "The Harder they Come", "Sitting in Limbo" is a plaintive yet beautifully simple song with a lot of C to F. When I brought it to the open mic, I was surprised how many people(including in the band) did not know it at all, and not just people who were not alive in 1972! https://youtu.be/Vx20SD17ltw
