Chet recorded and released over 100 albums in his career. His last solo project was "Almost Alone." Mostly nylon string. I listen to it a lot. "Neck and Neck" with Mark Knopffler is another good one, as is "The Day Fingerpickers Took Over the World" with Tommy Emmanuel, "Standard Brands" with Lenny Breau, "Chet Atkins, CGP" - There's just no place to stop.

After Chet's passing, his estate released a 2 CD set called "Solo Sessions," which was a compilation of Chet's own private recordings. Very intimate, almost like a private concert by the world's greatest guitarist.

The album "Chester and Lester" that Chet Atkins made with Les Paul is a greast one.

I was in a Circuit City in Nashville several years ago and there stands Chet Atkins, alone, chomping a cigar, and looking a stereos. I timidly walked over and said something like, "Hello Mr. Atkins, I'm a guitar player and an admirer of your music." He just gave me this look like, "Get away from me boy - you bother me." It was a bit of a let down to say the least. Anyway, I still really dig his playing.

I highly recommend the DVD 'Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed at the Bottom Line,June 22,1992' Not only for the quality guitar playing, but for the sheer entertainment value of the whole production.

Whatever became of Jerry Reed? He was a pretty good picker. I haven't heard anything by him, about him, etc. for a long long time.

Working up this tune really gives me an appreciation for his arrangements. I think I'd like to work up some more.

Can anyone recommend a good resource for learning his arrangements?

Thanks.
It's interesting that you are looking for Chet's stuff. Recently I purchased the following from www.cduniverse.com:

- DVD Chet Atkins - Rare Performances 1955-1975 ($20.09)
- DVD Chet Atkins - Rare Performances 1976-1995 ($20.09)

Man, they are great!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Other Chet Atkins CD's. etc.:

Sorry, but I have no sources for instructional material.

Respectfully yours,

Heliman

Mel,

One of the guys that runs Premier Guitars (aka Music & More) in Davie FL is supposed to be a wonderful Chet / Merle Travis style teacher. Unfortunately I'm an hour north so I haven't taken lessons from him myself. I think he'd be an excellent resource; btw it's a great guitar shop, & really nice guys work there... Steve Wildey is the guy's name; call em or email or whatever, I'm sure they'll take care of you.

Premier Guitar - lessons page

Best of luck

Hello,

What program do I use to open these files? I can't seem to make the tab links work.

Thanks for the help.
