I still prefer dreads. If i want a guitar that has less volume i just play softer on my dreads.

Isn't that a bit extreme? Why does the name bother you? I have a 000Jr-10E Shawn Mendes. His signature appears on the fretboard across the third fret.

I have no idea who Shawn Mendes is, but I like the guitar!

I don't think it's extreme. I just don't care for the signature be it Clapton or Cash or.... I've played an EC and it is nice but they didn't spell my name right.

I wonder if that might be partly due to the gloss finish on the EC neck?

As far as I know, it's the only Martin 1 3/4" Mod V that is not satin.

Haha, I totally get this. Never been a fan of the celebrity models, and I pretty much avoid playing them. I think it's because of the inherent marketing: "people will buy this just because we slapped EC's name on it...maybe they'll think it sounds better." My own personal issues, I know. And I guess all marketing is trickery to some degree.

The 000-28EC is, to me at least, one of the few times that the signature model is truly a step up from the standard. Personally, I think EC is overrated and I could not care less that it's 'his' signature model. My opinion of the guitar is based solely on the qualities of the guitar.

But I understand the natural disdain for all things marketing.

you can always order a custom shop version with the same specs (without the signature) and pay ~$1k more!

Agreed. I too have a Shawn Mendes Martin Signature and it doesn't bother me a bit. So long as the tone is fantastic

If you’re looking at a 000-28 EC, consider an OM28V. Same body size but longer scale. I spent a lot of time with both and ended up with the OM28V.

You could have that part of the fingerboard cut off and replaced with a matching piece of wood. When done well it is barely noticeable.

Unlike some other sig guitars, that EC guy knows what guitar he likes! 000 with V neck! Hooray! Love mine, bought from a pawn shop and hot rodded by my luthier! (Wonderful setup and Trinity K&K pickup).

Default I own it. Get it.

I’ve owned about 25 acoustics over the years. I wanted to find the right mix of sound and playability - to just have one acoustic 6 string that could do everything. I had an Eastman OM that I liked - and I brought it in to my Guitar guy for some work. He owned a Martin 000-28EC. I’d never seen one before. I played it for a while - it was magical. I really like everything about this guitar. Finger style - strumming - everything. It was a little expensive for me - but I sold some stuff and bought one from early 2000’s with a couple of small scratches. For me - it’s the perfect acoustic.

If your looking for a smaller body guitar you might also consider the Martin CEO-7. It's a slope shoulder 00 with a Mod V neck and short scale like the 000-EC. It also has a slightly wider string spacing of 2 5/16 vs the 000-EC at 2 1/4. Mahogany B/S though, so if you're specifically looking for Rosewood then it won't fit the bill. IMO the CEO-7 is a great sounding guitar that puts out more volume than you'd expect.

I had one fifteen years ago, but was never satisfied with the tone and didn't keep it very long. Dunno, maybe I got the only EC dud to come out of Nazareth.

I'm thinking about trying again. I play differently now than I did then, and I also know more about acoustic guitars, so I'm pretty sure I could get one up and running to my satisfaction.

They certainly are handsome things.

I really like my 000-18 and know the 000-28 sounds great too. However, I tend to avoid paying extra bucks for "signature" models. All my Martins are "standard"...which suits me just fine.
