Everybody has a camera with them these days! Here are a couple from Louise, another violinist I work with:
Actually, Bob, my liner clips are much smaller, perhaps you meant my one liner quips. |

Cool photos Bruce.
Another question: is this the same body style as the guitar that I linked above from Dream Guitars? http://om28.com/ProductDetail?product=P150204001

If Paul Heumiller is right, the one he has is 1 13/16 x 2 3/8, whereas the new one Eric is offering is 1 3/4 x 2 5/16. Actually, Eric's is is closer to 1 99/128, but you'd need very good eyesight to see that as it is just a hair over the 1 3/4 line on the ruler. |

I joined a top and a back today. I am thinking to send the year out with yet another L00. This is Pernambuco and White Spruce, whatever that is. Thought I'd try it since I have a few sets due to being a sucker for a good deal. It is certainly white, and the grain count at the join is stunningly high.
One side planed, the other rough sawn: Closer. The pencil line was so I could make out the grain line: There is an interesting cosmetic issue under the middle wedge, you'll see later: |

A few thoughts-
1 - I love love love the carved top. Nicest i've seen without a W on the the headstock.. 2 - I wold LOVE to own a Pernambuco. I figure if it's good enough for world-class bows - it can ROCK a guitar. 3 - there are SO MANY amazing luthiers these days that it is hard to know where to go. (I will post separately on this) 4 - nice axe!!!!!!!

I've played a couple of Bruce's pernambuco guitars. They are absolutely jaw dropping in tone. I admit I have warmed to the aesthetic over time.

I imagine the aesthetic referred to is the color of Pernambuco? If so, it actually has quite a range of color, from a fairly neutral brown through yellow and purple. But the bulk of it is a sort of florescent brick like this, and this is the prized coloration in the Bow world. Under finish, and especially as time passes, it darkens and mellows, but there is virtually always an electrical undercurrent if you look hard enough. Because for me a large component of beauty is rooted in function, this wood looks mighty fine to me.
Here are the plates with the braces on. This is my first non-scalloped top in quite some time, probably over 15 years! |

For those of you that are curious, here is an example of the difference between unfinished Pernambuco vs. what it looks like under Bruce's varnish finish. As Bruce described the pernambuco will continue to oxidize and darken into a deeper burnt sienna hue over the years.
This one that he is building is going to be a KILLER guitar! Someone should jump on this...

Yeah, Bruce, I meant the color. I used to think it was kind of boring, but when I saw your stuff in person I thought it looked much nicer. And the tone really sells itself. I really liked the exauer.

The "exauer" had it alright, probably still does but it's been a while since I thought about that guitar, since sold. In the way of the modern market, it may well reappear. I believe the owner and I renamed it the "ex-exauer" since we replaced the inlay with something less controversial.
