The thread is old but still very useful.
For those Red-Eye aficionado: do you use compressors with your preamps? Where in the signal chain would you place one? Considering, you'd also throw a reverb pedal in the loop. Thanks!

Well I might as well continue to bump the zombie thread
I'm planning to get my acoustic project up and running and have been looking for both a DI and boost. Just today I discovered the RE Preamp. Aside from the lack of power jack (I'll just get a snap plug cable for my pedalpower), it looks great! My acoustic setup is not the most traditional. I play a Godin A6 Ultra (mix output with the neck HB, and piezo both at 100%), through a Shure GLX-D16 wireless, into a Earthquaker Dispatch Master, then a 5 foot 1/4" out into my L1M2B2. As this time I'm just rehearsing in my basement. I'm running my shortest 1/4" cable as I don't currently have a DI. Seems like most folks run direct from the guitar into the RE. The output impedance of my wireless receiver is: 100 Ω (50 Ω, Unbalanced) [pretty low for acoustic I know]. I'm wondering if it's pointless to introduce something like the RE into this setup, since I'm using a magnetic/piezo blend into a wireless unit? Thanks everyone. Just heard about this preamp the other day. It would appear it has a following.

Just heard back from Daren and he answered all of my questions. Wonderful! He did say that these are not designed to be used with pedals in front though. Has anyone tried these with a wireless unit? I read on another forum someone has used this with a Line 6 Relay and a Fiddle. She said it sounded perfectly fine. Just looking for some more experiences, if there are any out there.
Thanks. |
