Yes, I pulled the UST out and all the workings as I wasn't a fan of the Sonitone. The pickup is a Black Angel. It's a great guitar for sure! I have much more expensive guitars, but I often turn to the Epi!

Why do you think another Epiphone will have a higher quality top?
They don't use highly graded materials on these guitars; that's the whole point of why they exist. Cheap labor, cheap materials.
If it sounds good to you, I'd say you got your money's worth and then some.
If you want top notch materials, get a Collings.
