Default Thoughts on Martin 000-28EC?

Looking to pick up a new smaller body guitar, and move away from dreadnoughts some. The mod-V neck intrigues me, slightly wider string spacing. Just looks like a really nice guitar for the price. I've watched a few review videos, but that's about as good as I can do around here as no one stocks one.

Anything else with similar specs at a similar price point worth checking out? Thanks.

I’ve had a couple

Impressed with the fit and finish

Thought it was a really good smaller bodied rosewood guitar

What made you decide to get rid of them?

I have a 2012 and it's a great all-purpose guitar.

Thought the 000 in general sounded “boxy”

Nothing against the particular model which I liked

Probably because of the name affiliation, but Martin sold a boatload of these, so there are a lot of them on the used market. Since they are so common that's the way I'd go, and someone else will be shouldering that first depreciation bite.

The nicest neck on a modern Martin - it's a mod V, but feels different than the mod V on other models.

How would you go about removing the signature on the EC? Black magic marker? Tape would be too noticeable.

I've got a Martin Rosewood 000, a 2022 00028 Modern Deluxe. I've never played a EC so can't compare them but my 00028 MD gets a good share of my playing time. The neck makes it the easiest guitar I own to play. It has a VTS Sitka top and some other features, I think it's worth checking out.

Have had a 'burst EC since '07 (thanks, Jon). Other than the binding issues, I love it.

I've been through four 000 Martins and they are all gone.

Like one comment above, they all sounded too "boxey". One thing in favor of the 000-28EC, however, is the comfortable neck.

But if you're used to the sound of a quality dread, you'll probably not be satisfied with any 000 (unless it was built with the deep body option that adds 1/2" in body depth).

There were a number of threads about this model many years ago. A near constant comment was that the neck is significantly different from the standard 000-28 neck, so you might keep that in mind...

The 000/OM body style is super comfortable to play. Are they as loud as a dread - no they are not, but they still sound very good. I wouldn’t say though that they are made to bang hard on. If you need that, get a bigger guitar. If however, you like to play with your fingers or sit on the couch and play, the 000-28/18 are great guitars for that.

It sounds better for picking then strumming. It's rear shifted bracing so it will sound more even sounding than bass heavy

Did you have the Martin binding problem on an '07 EC?

I thought the problems started around 2012?

I have an EC from '07 - was going to recommend the earlier models as they had no ...err...... problems...maybe not, then? Mine has the 'previous presidential tan style'.....no other problems and the neck is a fave!
