Default Discount On New Gibsons?

After a few years of contentment, I seem to have caught another case of GAS. What sort of discount am I likely to see on a new Gibson? Looking at some SJ-200s. This would be an in-store purchase.

Side note, this bout of GAS is the result of a visit to Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville. Amazing inventory! At the time of my visit I was in GAS denial, so came back home to Cali without buying anything. But, you know how it goes ...

Thanks!

I purchased 2 brand new Gibsons in the last 4 months from Russo Music in Hamilton NJ. They were both in person trials and purchases. I got 18% off a Hummingbird Faded, and 15% off a Dove. Was looking for closer to 20% on the Dove but they are rare and the store had just gotten it in.

It will vary depending on store, model, and length of time in inventory.

Happy hunting!

My experience has been 10-15% on Gibsons is in the ball park depending on on the model and stock situation. If a specific store has a bunch of a given model - say they have 10 J-185s like Fullers did a while back - they were offering 20% on those.

Hunt a used recent year SJ-200. If you’re patient, you’ll find one…

I’m accustomed to 15%…

But it depends on the model. My latest favorite … the reissues with the adjustable bridge… there are plenty of them and I am shocked at what you can buy “used” ones for… which seem to be new markdowns in inventory a while.

I got a new 2023 SJ-200 from Thunder Road guitars in Seattle for $3,950 in November 2023. Since I live in another state there was no sales tax.

I got my SJ-200. I started with a round number that amounted to about 17% off, Dealer countered at about 12% and I said "sure." I am fairly certain he would've gone a little bit lower, but small shop, pleasant owner, and I just didn't feel like beating on him for a steeper discount.

Ended up with a Standard. They also had a 1957, but I liked the sound of the Standard better. It's a beauty (sorry, I don't have an active photobucket etc account) and sounds gorgeous.

Thanks all, for your info.
