Default Lowden Nylon

Looking to replace the S25J I sold 6 plus years ago. I used to play it for my daughter, regretted selling it and she keeps asking about it. My classical isn’t filling the gap.

Side note - there are a lot of sellers passing off the factory guitars as worthy of the new shop’s prices.

Anyway, just throwing this out there.

I have a number of things I would trade including a Trillium Bouzouki which a sinker redwood top, a Baxendale 1940s figure 8 mahogany H165, and late 50s Baxendale rebuilt all mahogany H165 and a Pavan TP30 cedar. All of these have k+k pickups ( the pavan has a souped up one). Have a lazy river weissneborn spruce rosewood as well as a honey burst early 90s Les Paul for the right deal.

I’m also down with an all cash or part cash deal, as well as non instrument (pedals/synths) as part of a trade. As a small apartment family guy I would be more than happy to trade several for one.

Anyway that’s the pitch. Thanks for reading

Default Not a Lowden, but...

I have a virtually new Eastman Cabaret JB sold by John Buscarino himself. He worked with Eastman to design this model. He takes a few at a time, changes out and/or tweaks a few things (strings, pickups, etc), does an impeccable setup and then sells out of his shop at an upcharge.
So, factory, yeah, but also hands, eyes and ears of the signature master.
Probably half the cost of the Lowden.
Good luck with your quest!

That looks great - I'll keep it in mind if the quest fails!

Bump that I had someone message and offer a green label s25J for $5k.

I'm perhaps ignorant in how much the green labels are going for, seems insanely over priced - are people confusing the green labels for the George Lowden stuff or have they really appreciated this much because paying 5k for a factory lowden beats paying 10k for the the GL version?

I guess that would make sense. On the record, I'll trade / pay value for a GL era nylon - I don't think a 25j is worth 5k though.

Really depends on the woods lately too. My walnut S was 8k 3 years ago. Sorry.

I'm with you on the overpriced S25J.
Lowden guitars owners often rely on the new price to set the used price of their instrument which doe'snt really makes sense...

Green oval label J models were built under license in N.I.(and we know that story ended badly!).
When I was searching one for me, I played a lot of preowned "Green Label" S25J that greatly disappointed me

IMHO the post 2004 J Lowdens are way better...

Besides be aware the J series have been extended lately : S34J (Koa/Sitka Spruce), S23J (Walnut/Cedar),

Lowden guitars have never been cheap but alas prices increased a lot these last years.
I hope you'll find the guitar of your dreams, I'm very happy with the mint 2015 S32J I bought used in UK for about 4000 $ a few years ago (3450 €)

Occasional bump. Have trade plus cash - have been keeping an eye on listings but just keeping this around in case someone is looking to thin the herd (or grow it with a 2 for one deal)

A new S25J is about 6500$
These current J models have a reduced scale and their electronics have recently been changed for the newer LR Baggs Session VTC.

5K for an old S25J (oval label, standard scale, old pickup system, altered bracing) seems quite irrealistic to me...

And you can't compare a S25J to a current 8K$ S35J.
Two different animals!(different woods, costly cosmetics)

Yeah, it's crazy - the inflation for the factory guitars is pretty nuts. Well, to be fair, I think it's unethical misrepresentation, but what do I know.
