I'm no fun - anything of any substantial value I sell would go to the retirement fund, which will be needed sooner than expected!

I don’t have any expensive guitars, but if I sold one that cost me the most I spent, taking into account age and use, I think I’d like a new watch. A daily wearer. Nothing special or extravagant. Just a solid, handsome watch.

With the advent of cell phones, wrist watches have become a luxury item these days. No one really needs one any more, just like pay phones.
I miss wearing a wrist watch. I think blue is my color?

I used to be way into watches prior to guitars. Still got more of those than I need as well but have sold some. Nice looking Seiko GMT's! Yeah...cell phones killed watches.

I choose not to live under arbitrary, artificial rules that so many here on the AGF say they must abide by:

- one-in-one-out
- I can only have X number of guitars
- I must sell something to get something else
- I'm not "good enough" to deserve the instrument I really want

And on and on. If there's something I want - new car, skis, tools, bike, trip, etc. I'll buy it. My "needs" and wants, however, are very modest by AGF standards.

The only reason I'll sell an instrument is because I no longer want it. That has happened twice. I'm not required to do anything with the proceeds.

Why not sell a house, car, bike, etc. to finance a guitar, education, retirement, etc.?

I'm probably missing the point or over/under thinking this thread.

I get it. You don't have to be like me. Or like anyone else. I'm just curious what others' "other" toy might be.

My only other hobby that requires any kind of major cash outlay is guns, and I don't have a jones for anything new. The only thing I'd sell a guitar for right now would be to buy another, and I'd really kind of like to have a 000-18 Modern Deluxe.

I’m no fun either. I’d probably just stick the money in my rainy day fund. Either that or I might be persuaded to finally upgrade my ancient IPad.

I personally can only afford one hobby at a time. So if I feel compelled to sell a guitar is because I need the money for something else.

My wife and I are both down to two guitars that we each really like. But if I did sell a guitar, or if she would sell off a couple flutes and a piccolo she rarely plays, I’d opt for a new living room set and new carpeting.

A project in my other pursuit, cycling, I am currently building up this new old stock Ritchey P650B frameset.

Sold quite a few guitars over the past few years, to help create funds for a Harley Davidson.

Now that I have the Harley, am replacing guitars.

Guitars still get more use.

Now, thinking of selling Harley, to buy more guitars.

Go figure.

Watches! I have a nice collection already (multiple Longines, TAG Heuers, a Tudor, Hamiltons, Seikos) but my grail watch is the Omega Speedmaster Pro (aka Moonwatch) and $6k is a bit out of the range of what I can spend at the moment.

BUT I'm fairly happy with my current guitar collection and they all have too much sentimental value for me so the Omega will have to wait.
