What a gorgeous series of contrasts! I can't wait to see this one finished. (although you might be a BIT more excited than I am)

What are we choosing bridge and fret board? I know the fret board in the bottom picture is absolutely beautiful. If you don't want it, I might try to buy it from John at the next B.I.G.!

DEFINITELY use the Santos Rosewood fretboard. I echo Tom's enthusiasm for it. It is up there with Desert Ironwood in hot-ness.
BTW, loving my new JK Bog Oak OM. John is in fine form. |

Wow!! I really like both…I prefer the Santos if we’re just looking at the fretboard material on its own…but with the guitar as the whole package, I’m actually going with Bicote.
Either way- you win. Paul this thing looks gorgeous! Congrats to both you and John! |

I have to say I am super intrigued by this project. Very curious to see how it turns out.
What is the tone profile that you are aiming for in the guitar? |

What’s gonna be on the headstock Paul?
I think a Santos bridge, fingerboard and headstock veneer will provide nice, subtle visual contrast to the top and bindings. While also maintaining a certain theme on the facade of the guitar. But if it’s going to be something else entirely then perhaps a Santos bridge and fingerboard might not go well. Bocote throughout will obviously give consistency, which is something I’ve come to know Mr K likes, but not sure what the effects on tone will be. Details like these, so annoying yet so fun!!! Always plenty to think about during a build.

Tone…

I always tune down to D or open D or occasional drop C, as I play solo and don’t need to go up to E very often at all. And, the capo has been invented…. I expect this will sound great at any volume from a whisper to a roar. Hanter, I like your idea about the Santos Headstock, too. John is not wild about introducing the reds into the pallet, as no red in the back and sides…. Let’s see what John decides. He has such a fantastic eye for woods and how they work together. I am tempted to just let him use his own best judgment! Thanks, all for your input! Play on and have FUN Paul

If you stain the myrtle with “P juice” like Bruce does, you get an absolutely beautiful golden color with streaks of dark brown. 3 dimensional. Santos might work better if you did that. Not sure if Bruce ever reveals his secret techniques…

Love that purfling. It picks up the brown streak in the Myrtle beautifully.

If you had to pick between the two finger boards which would you choose? If you were not limited by the two which way would you go?
