Default Archibald McDonald of Keppoch - Furch Yellow

I haven't recorded a tune in quite a while as I was in a bit of a playing slump of sorts. I decided I'm going to re-record a lot of the tunes I have done over the years with my new Furch Yellow, cedar over rosewood, to help break it in and push me to practice with a purpose.

Also, the noise I was getting from my hand on the back of the neck of the Furch is finally starting to fade away.

I recorded with two mics into a Zoom H5. I'm using an AKG Perception 150 pointed at the left edge of the sound hole and a Rode NT-5 pointed in between the bridge and the sound hole.

This is the first two pages of the tune. Its not perfect, but close enough for me.

Archibald McDonald of Keppoch:

The arrangement is in DADGAD by Jim Tozier and can be found in his Celtic Guitar Solos book.

That's a lovely tune beautifully played Barry. Is it in Dorian mode?

Very very nice, Barry! I liked the quality of your recording.....do you think the panels helped in the overall sound with this tune? To me, the sound is very "present".....right there in your head (with headphones), and doesn't feel "distant" if you know what I mean.
Enjoy the day!

Thanks!

I wouldn't know a Dorian mode if I tripped over it.

That sounds really good Barry!

What a very rich sounding guitar! I love the depth of tone you are getting!

Ahh... It is basically a minor scale with the major 7th. I only know because when I look down at my dulcimer fretboard all the modes are looking back up at me!

Well done Barry.
The cool thing is that we all have our own way of playing, each in their own way and that's great.

Thanks Fred!

Yes I think the panels are helping. I don't hear that "muddiness" anymore.
I also moved the treble mic closer to the sound hole which I think helped the overall recording too.

Very nice playing, Barry. The recording quality really lets the guitar tell the story. My Yellow is starting to come into it's own as well.

Nice Barry. I think the guitar and recording setup worked well for this tune.
