Default Custom (or just great) 12 strings

Hi,

Lots of amazing 6 strings here.

Who has or who makes great 12 strings?

Here are a couple to get things going.

Smile This will be interesting!

I just sold a KILLER '94 Taylor Leo Kottke sig 12. It was set up by Tim Luranc, who helped Leo K design it! It was a beast and played great. Unfortunately the Jumbo body, long scale and 14 fret neck combined with the extra strings was just more than I could handle comfortably any more.

I would love to have a 12 fret short scale version. So I will follow this thread!

I have a Charlie Hoffman SJ designed specifically to be easy to play with a short scale. Wonderful guitar. His son will make them by request. Hoffman 12-string Full Ft Sm.jpg

Also love my Taylor 562, a very easy to play GC size 12 fret guitar with a rich tone, an alternative to the "jingle Jangle" of most 12's.

We’ve made a few over the years but don’t get a lot of calls for them. Kind of like lefty’s. The market is pretty narrow.

Love my Santa Cruz’ - not exactly custom, but probably special ordered - euro maple -

Figured walnut -

And truly custom - a 90’s Cumpiano acoustic/electric - really more electric than acoustic,though -

Sergei DeJonge makes great 12-strings. Glen Frey of The Eagles plays one.

Zounds!!!

That is the most beautiful Ryan I have EVER seen. Drooling over here!!!

Meanwhile I bought a 2016 Taylor 552ce (12x12) today. We will see if it is as cherry and dialed as advertised...

If it is like the one I sold here a few months ago it will be a very nice solo fingerstyle axe. It will not compete acoustically with a Kottke volume-wise, but it will have a nice fat, warm, tone with a lot of bass, especially for a 15" Body, and a good amount of overtones so a bit more complex tone. Not the best for fronting a string band, or any band! but very fine for solo

Plus it does come with the decent ES2 so can easily be amped if needed

Silly to be without a GOOD 12.

Play on AGF!!!

Paul

The combination pin/pinless bridge on the Ryan is brilliant. And the koa...! Great guitar!

I have a 12 string made by Rob Bustos / Paragon Guitars out of bearclaw german spruce and tree mahogany. I thought I was a complete idiot to go into that build for a niche / specialty guitar, but it may be one of the finest guitars I've ever played or owned and has pushed my limits in terms of play. I adore it and will never get rid of it. I will try to add pictures here in a bit.

That is a beauty right there, wow.

I know Steve Kinnaird does 12 strings, they have a build going right now within their own shop thread.

Just standard stuff for me.
Two mid '60s 12 fret 12 strings.

Both have mahogany B&S, and, as you see, the Harmony has a theoretically) floating bridge and tailpiece, and the Martin a standard bridge pin.

The Harmony has a good healthy 22 nut width which makes it very easy to play, and the Martin has a 1 & 7/8" which is as narrow as feasible for a 12 string.
