Doug, is this the mic you are using?

I have this one:

https://www.bartlettaudio.com/collec...attery-powered

But I cut the cord and installed it as an internal mic, so it's just powered by the 9 volts to the ring, supplied by the MS-2. As provided by Bartlett they have a simple passive circuit included that I think cuts the bass response a little bit, so I lost that with my install. I had the high pass filter turned basically all the way up as a result, the mic's a bit bassy, at least in this guitar. With the Audix mic I usually use, I don't have to have as much bass cut.

The Bartlett's a nice sounding mic, but I'm not sure I'd recommend doing what I did with it, the Audix or DPA 4061 are probably better choices for an internal mic.

Indeed! This sums up the review quite nicely.

"The real magic of the MS-2 happens when the mid-side decoder gets kicked in and you pan the outputs hard left and right. The effect was mesmerizing—very three-dimensional, beyond realistic, venturing into almost chorusing. With reverb engaged and headphones on I went deep down the rabbit hole and almost didn’t come back."

I see the Sunnaudio is finally making the rounds. It's a spendy little unit but think of all the money you will save not buying other gear.

In the same breath, it might be nice to see a dedicated/stand-alone Mid-Side Decoder pedal (minus EQ, Boost, 48V etc...) for those on a tight budget or already owning related gear?

You'd still need an appropriate 2-channel preamp to put it in. I used a standalone MS-decoder for years before asking Sunnaudio to make me an integrated preamp with it built in. I used the Sonic Orbit: http://www.peterengh.com/sonicorbit.php.
