Default Lost a Dear Friend today

Over the past 10 years, my best buddy was a Corgi named Dusty. He was as much a part of me as anything in life could be. My constant companion. I wanted to share this poem that helps me.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

I’m very sorry for your loss Bill. I know the feeling all too well.
My current pet is a wonderful cat, also named Dusty.
He has been my faithful companion for 12 years, and thankfully he’s still healthy.
I know it won’t be forever though, and that really hurts.

My friend of 15 years left us just a few weeks ago. Hard on the heart, but left us with great (and often hilarious) memories. Let's hope some version of the Rainbow Bridge exists, for them and for us.

Sorry for your loss.
Somehow, losing a pet is sometimes harder than a human.

My Doberman, Effie, Oct 6, 1998 and my other Doberman, Gwendy, Nov 11, 2011. They were both 12 years old when they left me. I cried a lot over those two but somehow it "heals over" and things settle down. One never forgets! I consider people like us to be fortunate to have been "owners" of great dogs during our lives!

One of the hardest and most painful things is loosing a dog. The pain is a reflection of how much they meant to you and you to them. The positive is that here was a dog that knew a good and full life thanks to you.

Sorry for your loss, take care.
