Hopefully this will be my final reply to this thread. My #2 S1 Pro* has lasted 34 days before the battery charge falling below 90%. I think that's probably the best I can hope for, will test the other one as I can live with just on until we all get to go gigging again.

The mods over on the Bose forum are still ignoring any attempts to contact them , they have blocked my PM access and are still screening/censoring all my posts. I find this behaviour insulting in the extreme and would caution against making any posts that could be construed as critical of Bose over there. I would delete my account but there does not seem to be an option to do so in the user control panel or whatever they call it over there.

* Updated to 7.1.7 before testing.

Well not quite my final word, a few days ago the admins over on the Bose forum disabled my account after, effectively, ignoring me for a couple of weeks. I suspect some of the mods were happy to approve my posts while others had not.

Nor sure I can be bothered with setting up yet another account......

34 days isn't enough?

I always charge mine before using. Actually, I just leave it plugged in all the time until needed.

I don't know if you've read the whole thread Murphy but this is a complicated issue, my first S1 Pro let me down for an off grid session after being in the car for less than a week.

But in answer to your question, yes 34 days is enough but the battery should last much longer than that* and it's life is being reduced by the unnecessary drain resulting in battery cycles being consumed even when the speaker is in storage.

* Removed from the S1 the batteries lose the expected <3% per month

One final twist to the Bose forums issue, I have now been officially banned from the site and can't even view the forums as a guest to keep up to date.......

First off Sam, how hot or cold was it when you left your Bose in the car? 120 degrees, 5 degrees?

And secondly, 34 days isn’t long enough? What is it, zombie apocalypse across the pond?

The original S1 Pro was faulty, they did not want to admit it (though my dealer was quick to offer an exchange) but there are many other users experiencing the same problem. Bose were initially unwilling to admit there was a problem which affects some users and, when they did, very slow to find a solution. It appears they have finally done so and I am happy with the result. What I am not happy with is the way the forum admins have treated me despite being only one of the many who called them out for their poor response to a genuine problem. They need to be called out for this behaviour.

I have no problem with anybody within Bose apart from he forum admins, the UK support rep was excellent, "ST', the visible face of the forum was exemplary, and I acknowledged all of this in my posts. I am not losing any sleep over this and I still have my Bose S1 Pro's, they are good speakers, the best of the available options, but the forum admins have not behaved in a reasonable manner.

I post this simply to help others to avoid being treated in a similar manner, there are good people posting on the forum but the mods won't tolerate dissent.

Here's another way to not get treated in that manner: let them know if you are having a problem, then don't beat it to death.

I have an S1. It was one that had the battery draining issue, but it never let me down, because I plugged it in the night before needing it. Bose exchanged that S1 (this was early on when the issue first came up). I still plug it in the night before needing it. Nothing to lose sleep over.

It doesn't sound like you've read my OP in this thread or the (20 page) thread on the Bose forum. No question of beating it to death, simply a protracted discussion between several users who have the issue and a Bose rep much of it simply providing user data. Nobody was being disrespectful and the Bose rep in question was uniformly polite.

WRT 'the issue' if you live, effectively, off grid for a period of time (me), or have a storage facility which does not have power (another Bose forum user) then the issue is something to 'lose sleep over'. Thankfully 'the issue' has been fixed (for a certain value of 'fixed').

The L1-Compact is the industry standard, the SM58, of the stick systems. Their computer speakers and headphones are legendary. The S1-Pro has probably outsold anything in it's class since it's release,

And, they are a sponsor of this Forum....

Thank you for the very level rebuttal to that post, Murph.

I would say the L1M2, not the Compact, is the industry standard. I have both and the L1M2 sounds a great deal better, but is overkill in some places where I take the Compact.

Not sure why this should affect how we post on here?

They've actually bent over backwards for me. Back for repair twice for the battery drain. Still didn't hold well.

After Covid they sent me two brand new units made after they "fixed" the design on the manufacturing line. Unfortunately, the batteries are draining faster than the old ones and yes, the firmware is updated.

I've been speaking with one person from England for awhile and today I spoke to an engineer in Massachusetts. They're baffled as to why the new ones are dropping from 100% to 90% in 13 days and 10 days. These are worse than my old ones.

The engineer has a theory that maybe the batteries were older and he's trying to get some brand new batteries recently made, but they make them in batches and he doesn't know how old the new batch is.

I'm working with them, and them with me. Slowly. I told him today that I don't want to end up with units that drain faster than the old ones and provided the information I learned here of old, non-"repaired" units not dropping to 90% until more than a month.

Still trying.

Did you check the serial numbers to be sure they were new units?

Maybe you just got "fixed" old ones...
